I think it's been that way for quite some time though. Investment, even in smaller clubs like Sunderland and Villa and Southampton, was huge for a while. I remember doing the calculations back in 2009 or so and half the league were richer than us with consortiums pumping in money everywhere. And when FFP and other circumstances made it less attractive to invest the tv money exploded.
