no, people were genuinely against selling him because they thought we should keep persisting. that he was a diamond in the rough.
it's important that a squad keeps turning. we need to signal to our players that those who are showing rapid progress when given chances will be invested in, and others will be at risk of trades. I was for the Iwobi move and still comfortable with it.

has anybody followed progress with Bielik? he was another player with a cult following before his departure

I think he was always good. A Newcastle supporting mate talked about him being the only player they had who was worth a damn that year they got relegated. He scored a decent amount, was never injured and put in a bunch of motm displays despite playing for one of the worst PL teams in recent memory. Don't think Klopp deserves any credit there, other than identifying a good player. It's not like Wijnaldum came particularly cheap either.

I remember that post of yours that he would be the only player from that Newcastle side worth a try. I actually think Liverpool deserve credit for this transfer simply because nobody particularly rated him and he wasn't hyped. No fuss was given when Pool signed him and nobody expected him to be this useful too.

I don't agree a lower league club standing is the way to judge a player. If that is the case you won't be giving chances to Kyle Walker and Guendouzi and tons of other examples because their club is doing shit in lower league.
