Mourinho doesn't address flaws - he masks them for a season or two and then you're left in a worse place than before.

Yeah, I don't think it'll happen until top 4 starts to look unlikely, and given the state of United and Chelsea, we'd have to be pretty dismal for that to happen. If it did happen, I reckon we'd just get Ljungberg until the end of the season.

That being said, the Edu factor is the big unknown. Unlike Raul, he had no input in hiring Emery and he may be putting forward a case for someone altogether different. Decisions to let go of Iwobi and Mkhitaryan will have definitely undermined Emery too, so I'm not sure Raul is backing Emery as wholeheartedly at they'll say in public.

1 point from an away game and we are still in the mix for now, but lose at Old Trafford next weekend and things may start to look gloomy. To some the stench of an immense bottle job in our last 6 fixtures of the 18/19 campaign and that final is still potent. So maybe a bit broader then feeling bad just about this result. That 20 game unbeaten streak just doesn't seem replicable at the moment.

EDIT: We've got Villa next weekend, but still 2 weeks from now these underlying resenting feelings could continue to develop.

Exactly. Not sure when it's gotten this bad but I barely skim most threads here, we're not sacking our manager five games into the season when we're two points behind City. It's not even like there are any exciting managers available people are clamouring for Mourinho ffs.

Exactly. Not sure when it's gotten this bad but I barely skim most threads here, we're not sacking our manager five games into the season when we're two points behind City. It's not even like there are any exciting managers available people are clamouring for Mourinho ffs.

I'm still annoyed we missed out on the only exciting manager in Klopp because Wenger extended his contract after the FA Cup Final victory. Imagine he step down in glory and we went for Klopp.

Are there any other exciting manager you can think of? The talent well is so dry I'm even tempted by Rodgers.

Depends on what you're looking for. The only sure thing out there remotely attainable is Simeone and that's a 1 in 1000 chance. Everybody else would come with massive baggage themselves or would be a risk. Tedesco was thrown around not that long ago and look how that turned out

I don't think replacing Emery now would be a good idea, I'd only consider it if we were at danger of losing out on top four in a couple months. If we were in deep shit I'd consider Bordalas, if nothing else he'd definitely tighten us up defensively. Maybe Gasperini but who knows whether he'd dump Atalanta midseason for us.

No where near an Emery fan, and I said he should have been cut last season.

But when you commit to him over the summer, you have to let him have the season to show what he can do.

He is not the man for me whatsoever, but what are you going to do now? Sack him? No chance, let him have the rest of the season, and if he doesn’t come up to scratch, then we move on.

Results are everything and our best chance is if there is stability so i think the board will back the manager till the end of the season before passing judgement unless he flops and it becomes mathematically impossible for us to get Top 4.

The most likely scenario is that we make top four playing like this on the back of United and Chelsea struggling - would you offer Emery an extension?

If Emery goes it's only because results will have made it impossible to retain him, and I'm fairly certain Freddie will take over for the rest of the season if that happens to avoid uprooting the entire backroom staff. We should have bid him farewell this summer, fresh off the spectacular collapse last season, but Raul had other ideas.

I think Emery will get sacked before the end of the season. Results may not be the worst, but talk of being scared etc doesn't indicate a confident dressing room. The players need to believe in Emery for him to be worth keeping around. Having had just over a season at the helm, he has had more than enough time to make an impression with them.

It's too early to judge him now as it's only been 5 games and the new players haven't bedded in yet. It is, however, his job to get the best out of what he has got and if we are underperforming like we have these past 2 games, criticism is to be expected.

Norwich doing it a lot better than us, is this just down to the players or coaching?

That's definitely coaching. A lot of sides with lesser players play better football than us.

Passing out from the back is design to make teams press us and we beat the press with quick passing to open up spaces. That's the entire purpose of putting 2 defenders in the box to entice strikers to come forward into our advance areas. Ajax did it perfectly, Napoli and Betis of previous years love to do this too. Norwich admirably did that even at Anfield trusting their philosophy and actually trouble Liverpool a few times before they conceded the first goal and subsequently collapse.

But our lack of press resistant players has been a problem since Wenger era. We constantly lose the ball and even in possession whenever we encounter any sort of press we pass it back or sideways to safe options. That's exactly what opponent want us to do and so far we haven't been able to play through that. Having players like Ceballos is extremely beneficial as shown this season when he can twist his way pass into space and play our advance players in but as a system we are still lacking by far

That's mostly confidence not even coaching. Do people actually believe Norwich will be playing like this all season.

Not all season but probably for most of it.

Everyone talks about pressing, but maybe we should try to hold onto the ball a bit more instead and pass it better within the team. Let the opponents run themselves ragged. Yesterday it was our players who were croaking in the second half, not Watford's. Guendouzi had been zooming back and forth across the pitch so much that he was done after 50 minutes of football. He spent the second half being one of Watford's best players and could barely jog off when he got subbed. How is that sustainable football?

Our one successful sequence yesterday was the 20 uninterrupted passes preceding the second goal (according to PremierLeague.com it was the longest passing sequence preceding a goal in the league this season). A complete outlier for Arsenal, but there was a lesson there.
