Playing fantastically well, but I still get very bad vibes about his contract situation.

I think it's because the public statements connected with him are always so calculated, and then get further press hype. Like this latest Ornstein bit about him holding all the power in our negotiations.

Telling myself he'll likely be off because I just don't trust it.

We'll be fine.

He has settled in, and looks like he likes it here. We will pay a premium for him, as we should, and lock him down to a long term contract - hopefully nothing less than 5 years. After that, if he wants to try something else, we can sell him off for a world record fee.

My only worry regarding Saliba is that he is attracted to the French core at Real Madrid. But I'm 95% comfortable that he extends. At this rate, he Saka and Martinelli should jointly get a high sum of around 150k/week. They are the jewels

Bottom line is with the way he is playing no doubt sooner or later the top clubs will be sniffing around. We need to make sure that we pay them a good salary and match their ambition on the pitch.

I think getting all three contracts sorted would send out a massive statement as well. We are building something again and our best young players are on board.

Having listened to Martinelli talk about Arsenal and how he feels being here, I would be majorly shocked if he decided to up sticks and go somewhere else. Particularly now, as we're building something which feels it could be special, particularly as the core of Brazilian footballers he plays with are not the wasters that Luiz and Willian were. I mean, he gets to play with, and learn from Gabriel Jesus - why would you want to leave?

Saka and Martinelli are definitely staying. I think Saliba will too given how well things are going right now - if he wants to try Madrid or elsewhere at some point he's got plenty of time in the future, but I doubt even he will feel like a season at Arsenal is enough.

Regardless, their agents will want as much power as they can get. Saliba signing now vs at the end of the season could be the difference between 120k and over 200k per week.

Lets hope so, having lost so many good talents in the past I get a bit more nervous when the contracts get below 3 years.

With Saliba we got ourselves into a position where we either had to incorporate him into the team or sell him. It would have been very hard to extend his contract as I think he would have wanted clarity on his future. We should have made him sign an extension last summer along with the loan.

We should just give him crazy money now. It feels like it's Dias, Saliba, Laporte right now. And then that tall fuck at Liverpool

You can't make players sign contracts. It's not like we could've benched Saliba for a season or given him a loan he didn't want.

If you're thinking along those lines, this season we had the ideal chance with the carrot of a first team place and his outfit's still holding out on us to get more exposure and drive his price up.

It is in his best interest to run the contract down. He ramps up the pressure, increasing his optionality and ability to get a better price from us. He is doing the right thing.

The reason I said throw more money is that we can use that to dissuade him from doing the above.

Yup. Ultimately whatever you're willing to give them now you'll be willing to give more with 9 months left unless you literally offer unthinkable wages - even if it's over some of the finer details in the contract like bonuses and image rights etc.

Saka did it last time and will likely do it again.
