If I was Saka I would not sign until I see what we do to strengthen in the summer. He’d be foolish to sign on without that clarity of intent

He just extended this summer gone by so it doesn't really make a big difference at this point in time. By next year though we should deffo be renewing him and extending for a further 2 or 3 years to add to the end of his current deal.

it's actually a fivesome, as Tomi and KT also play CB. Certainly the best backline we've had in ages.

Did he? I thought his last deal was the same summer Auba signed.

Our plan for Saliba probably depends on Champions League qualification, and Arteta probably isn't spending too much time making friends with Saliba right now because his main focus is … Champions League qualification.

There are a number of indeterminates in there so it's reasonable if certain things aren't yet decided and communicated.

About a month ago there was a flurry of reports that Arteta wanted to extend Saliba in the summer, I don't know if they hold water either. If that were the case we could extend him and still leave him on loan, or bring him back, depending on what the player was willing to accept of course.

Don't mean to completely dismiss the concerns, but you could write this kind of report about half the players in the squad. "Granit Xhaka has not been advised of Arsenal's plan for him next season", "Lacazette in the dark about Arsenal future and has reportedly never had a pint with Vinai Venkatesham" …

If we end up losing Saliba, it will be catastrophic.

By any metric, he is good enough for Arsenal. He should be reintegrated to squad, and be given a new contact.

Now if he doesn’t sign a contract extension, then we should worry, but until then every move should be geared to keeping him.

It wouldn’t be catastrophic as we’d get bags and we have White, Saliba and Tomiyasu.

Hopefully he stays and is given a shot though

The message it sends absolutely would be a catastrophe. A player can make his debut in this France side, at CB no less, before he makes his Arsenal debut?

Arteta has to make it work no question.
