Yes, because no player has ever stayed at a club he was loaned to despite a legally binding contract elsewhere.

Mari has two games to his name this season, Holding who's third choice played 400 minutes. There's also Tomiyasu who's a learned CB, RB is a much more glaring need anyway. Even assuming Holding will be sold also, if Saliba comes here it'll be three (four counting Tomiyasu) central defenders who are 24 or younger, all with starting aspirations. The mental gymnastics here are neckbreaking to watch let alone perform.

Yep. Plenty of evidence of how weird his management is. Totally illogical in many aspects regarding squad management and players game time.

Yeah I think ultimately comes down to what Arteta does, Saliba doesn’t seem to be the type of ‘character’ Arteta prefers.

More than Thiago Silva did at PSG and he has adapted to PL in no time.

Saliba is absolutely top drawer you can be sure about that. Everytime I watched him he's excellent.

That's great!

Although, the Thiago Silva comparison is a bit silly. Good luck trying to get anyone to notice a CB when you play for a team where one player costs more than the entire XI you're facing most weeks.

Not sure if that matters. Laporte VVD Ruben Dias all shone for their respective rich ass clubs. A good player is a good player everywhere he goes

The Premier League is way more competitive though. Thiago Silva could have smoked a cigar most weeks in Ligue Un.

I was just impressed you managed to write a post that effectively advocated for Saliba to leave Arsenal, enthusiastically anticipated the prospect even, while eliding his contractual situation.

When you explained with similar pleasure why Juve might be a more attractive destination for Vlahovic, you had a greater proportion of the facts on your side.

White, Gabriel, Saliba and Holding next season seems right to me in terms of quality, needed game time, age profile.

White and Gabriel likely go into next season as the starters, with Saliba pushing hard and getting lots of minutes, whilst Holding will hopefully be content with cup games and coming in as cover.

Three that can interchange because they each could be starters and one reliable squaddie looks right. Comparable to Liverpool with van Dijk, Matip, Konate and Gomez, and City with Dias, Laporte, Stones and Ake.

And our trio of 'starters' will have a ton of potential, too.

"Enthusiastically anticipating the prospect" back to the doubting people's Arsenal supporting credentials I see. I rate Saliba's talent higher than any defender we have at the club and was a fan since his first games at ASSE, of course I want him here - I'm stating the obvious that the current regime doesn't rate him for reasons unknown but realistically very petty in nature. And that it would be in his best interest and is thereby pretty likely that he's looking at his options - the club had enough room for him to come home last summer, instead went out and bought another prospect for 50m hence the "moron" part if he's not doing any inventory taking

Regarding the "pleasure" why Juve might be more attractive for Vlahovic 😆 getting a bit embarrassed here mate. I'm not interested in partaking in RAWK style discussions how we're the greatest and every other club who's not playing in God's gift the EPL (TM) reeks of cat piss in comparison. There were several posters saying they don't understand why any player would rather go to Italy's record league winner who have been in the CL for 10 years straight than to us who haven't been in it for five years, pointing the ridiculousness of that out doesn't equate to pleasure

Holding already has to be content with cup games and the odd cover. Unless you think we're switching to a back three where are Saliba's lots of minutes coming from? Even if you added European games there's no way we're going to play someone else there than the two starters and even if you wanted to assume that Arteta starts to rotate more centre back is the most important position to have solidity in.

City don't come into the equation their whole bench is 50m players.

Gomez has barely featured so you can compare him to Holding if you like, but van Dijk and Matip are the clear starters now and they're both 30, Konate has played seven league matches so far but will have gotten assurances that he'll eventually take over Matip's spot who came on a free anyway. Not comparable to us where all signings have cost a bit and all are 25, 24 and 20.

I stand by what I said. Having three CBs of high quality means Arteta can pick the right moment to rest one of the two that are starting at that time, and trust that the partnership with the guy coming in is going to be solid.

Saliba will push White and Gabriel to train and play hard every week. And if he gets a spot because one of them dips, he'll have to play well to keep in the team. It also helps that I could see Saliba forming a good pairing with either of them.

I don't see the doom you're mongering. It looks a good situation to me.

I'm not doom-mongering, I simply don't see a scenario where we keep three highly rated and most importantly very young centre backs around, I don't think there's ever been any club who's done it in the past either. Think it's obvious we disagree and we'll see soon enough who's right, I really hope it's you but I can't see it.

Get a proper right back in and let Tomiyasu switch between right back and centreback when needed

I'm just reading your posts. You've been rather selective across these two accounts, and it was uncontroversial to read a frisson of anticipated glee into your claim Saliba would be a "moron" not to want to stay at Marseille.

Facts were on your side in the case of Vlahovic and Juventus—I pointed that out, noticing which could've saved you the labour of your poorly directed ventilations about RAWK and EPL chauvinism. But given Saliba's under contract to Arsenal and Marseille are rather far from a French Juventus, facts aren't on your side in his case. So it goes.

I agree with this, but Gabriel won't be around much longer so we have to plan for that. I'd try really hard to keep Saliba because I don't see Gabriel being at Arsenal at 27 unless he complete stalls in his development.
