Yes, but that was before we signed Willian. I was also opposed to signing that lump precisely because I knew he was going to take minutes from Nelson among others, but what's done is done. We have the squad we have now, and you can't have the kids rot in the U23 side if they're not getting first team chances.

St Etienne similarly got a big fee but lost someone who should have been a key piece for the next few yeas, and Arsenal potentially avoided having to pay twice as much for a fully developed Saliba at a later date (potentially being the key word here) but then had to pay another £30 million for Gabriel anyway when Saliba wasn't ready, so nothing was really gained. His point is that the transfer was motivated by money at every turn rather than football reasons. The fact that Puel cared so much about the transfer suggests that there's still a very good player there. If not, £25m would be a very good return.

I haven't heard anything about Chambers being back but man I've missed him. I really hope he's ready to play again. I think Holding did a great job over the last 5-6 months, but he doesn't have the same ability to organise the defence and the same calmness on the ball.

I guess the question is, does Arteta want to be brave and give the kid a chance, he may cost points here and there but in the long run we may reap the benefits. Or he doesn’t want to give the opportunity to a teenage CB and play other more experienced players.

Arteta says he and Saliba are both equally fed up with the current situation and he will send him out on loan in January.

Its a matter of 7-8 weeks and until then he's being cultured into the Arteta regime. Just smoke without fire. He'll make up time and 'transition'.

No issue with him going on loan again but the way we've handled this has been anything but stellar. You could say the same about most players we needed to send on loan but ended up staying here instead. How's the coordination between the first team staff and the loan manager? I thought we appointed people specifically to avoid situations like this where players waste away in limbo.

I think this would be a bigger mystery than Park, because all the facts don't add up. One of the best young defenders in France, legit performed well in Ligue 1 for probably about 1 season worth of appearances comes here and don't get into ANY matchday squad, solely plays for u23. His competition is a disgrace in terms of quality (Sokratis, Mustafi etc)

His understudy, less experienced gets signed by Leicester and is one of the best defenders in the league instantly albeit small sample size.

The logic naturally says Arteta got it wrong but, why?

I really hope Arteta and Edu are having a proper meeting about this team. We need to make hard decisions. And eat some salaries if need be. But we cannot persist with this squad fo 25-30 guys like player pimps. We need to focus in on the guys we want to build around, including those that are on strategic loans.

That's what is weird to me. I can't accept that there's nothing more going on than him playing that well in Ligue 1 and then not even being good enough to get one minute in our team.
