Since I can't believe there isn't a Cope America thread - what do people think of the first goal Brazil scored v. Colombia yesterday? I'm actually dumbfounded that the play was allowed to continue after hitting the ref and allowing Brazil to get into a better attacking position. (though, Ospina 'Ospina'd' the resulting header)

Great news man. Away goals was such a bullshit rule anyways. The team that scores the most goals should always be the one that wins, not the one that scored more away from home when it's a draw.

Also will mean teams playing at home won't be scared of conceding a crucial away goal which used to make home sides play more for a 0-0 or 1-0 rather than a score draw or any other narrow win.

In the same vein the away team won't be playing attacking football away from home because there's no reason to. It'll make very little difference overall I think.

The major difference for me is simply that the team with the fewest home goals doesn't automatically go through in case of a draw. Never made sense to me fairness-wise to reward the better away team and punish the better home team in a draw.

I don't like the complete scrapping of away goals at all. Just remove the extra time.

I have never seen anything about the away goals rule that was problematic except for extra time. The whole thing about it making the home team more defensive is a red herring. Teams that go defensive would do so regardless of the away goals rule.

If you scored the same amount of goals after 2 legs, it is unfair to go out on away goals. So I am glad they remove it.

I agree with the others in that if the scores are level then they are level. Shouldn't matter where you scored your goal tbh. And yeah, penalty shootouts are a roll of the dice but it's a hell of a lot fairer than being knocked out on away goals.

Remember our loss to Chelsea in 2004? That fake was so fucked. Level on goals and away goals going into the last 19-15 minutes and they scored a lucky goal in the counter that killed the game off as we now needed to score 2 more goals in such a short time otherwise we were out. The last few minutes was pretty much for nothing.

C. Ronaldo was no joke back when he still had pace and before he became a ruthless goal scoring machine. Terror to defend against. Took the entire premier league by storm. He did mug Ashley Cole that one time when he made Ashley do the splits and slam his head on the floor. Yeah, that was bad.

4 goals 4 assists for Messi. Only 2+2 for Neymar. Argentina have only really gotten going in the past 2 games, they still looked unsure of ideas in their first 3 games (as evidenced by 1-1. 1-0, 1-0 scores). They have a good shot to win it this year. Brazil haven't looked that overwhelming to me so far.
