A better version of Pedro. Good finisher and final ball

He's a bit of a nothing player, tbh. Not great speed or acceleration, not a great dribbler...no outstanding attribute. He's decent at many things, not particularly good at any one. Not technically great either - he's the Spanish Ryan Fraser with not as much speed but a longer track record. More a conventional winger who likes to stay on the touchline and cross. He's also 28, so count me unexcited.

35m for an above average 28 year old. Rather pay what ajax are asking for ziyech

Exactly the type of player we shouldn’t be going for.

He's the shithouse version of Pedro.

We had another Lucas once. Scored a hat trick against Basel. And then disappeared again.

He's shit. Too weak , I would rather pay double for Zaha

I’d say James Milner is a more apt comparison. Was one of their most used players during Zidane’s first stint at Real, was mainly used to provide balance as Ronaldo moved more into a centre forward role. Not flashy or uber talented but he’s a workhorse who seems to have a great understanding of the game. Dirk Kuyt was also of a similar ilk, they are players who don’t have an amazing touch or great dribbling ability but can get the job done mainly due to their game intelligence and work rate. I dunno if our current team is in need of such a player, I’d give preference to a technician/magician that could take us to another level

Would much rather get Ünder for another 5M or so than Vazquez. He's probably better today, has a higher ceiling and can be moved on with some loss if he doesn't make it here.

I second Ünder. Vazquez strikes me as exactly the kind of player Emery would rate though.

Exactly. High on work rate, low on footballing ability.

If we do splurge £25m on him or whatever surely that derails our approach to the Zaha deal

Yeah exactly, Emery just loves players with no footballing ability

Christ

Lol. Hey it’s okay for everyone to have an opinion. Regardless of how daft it is.

obvious leak to try and get palace to accept less for zaha

same deal as the marcelo leak to try and get celtic to accept our latest offer

I don't know if those leaks would work if that's what is happening or is intended. I'm certain there isn't a queue of clubs lining up to pay for Zaha, certainly at anything over £50m.

i think its more of "we wont pay over the odds for zaha, we can go and sign vazquez instead" to try and get palace to take less. because if palace dont sell him to us, hes going to be pissed he didnt get his move and it could impact his performance this season, and then they may potentially get less for him next summer if he has a shit season

Forgot about Under, if we can't get Zaha he is the next best option. In an ideal situation with a serious owner and management team we would get both. Zaha on the left and Under on the right would be ace.

Was fun while it lasted. Very much prefer Malcom on loan or Carrasco anyway

For the Zaha money, Under and Ziyech are youth I can get behind. Would be nice to really reform this team. Having those 2 and Nelson/Iwobi out wide would be strong. Bye Mickey

Ziyech is 26.

26 is young enough. Gives me 5 good years. More youthful. I just want a team that can largely grow old together and win some shit together in 2021-23 as we keep adding people.
As we are right now if we keep adding Kanneman types, we will never have a group of players maturing together into a great team

Zaha is 26 too.

The more I watch Ziyech in AFCON, I think he is not the most pressing need we have. He cuts in too much to play in the middle and don't stretch defences. We don't really play combination football to get our midfielders in shooting position anymore after Wenger left, Ziyech wouldn't thrive as much here as Ajax.

The one player I am really impressed is Bennacer though.

Ziyech was piss poor this tourney, not close to his normal level. Not like he only plays well for Ajax either he was far better at the WC too

He’s played well in qualifiers as well. Some of these kids could be exhausted. I feel like football is extracting everything from them. This tournament ends in two weeks on 19 July, and the transfer window shuts 3 weeks later on 8 August. Pre-season starts next week with our Boreham Wood match. At some point he needs to sort out his future, get a rest, and then ramp up his fitness again ready for the new season. It’s fucked up.

Boreham Wood is today, Claude. Will be largely U23s playing as our senior players only returned yesterday for training. Steve Bould taking charge for it.
