-- It is funny to hear that described as not an easy chance. We had an xG of 0.6 with 2 shots on target. And Maduekes chance was likely worth about 0.1-0.2 of this. So about 30-40% of the time, an average striker scores that not easy 1:1 chance.
Not denying that Martinelli should be scoring those chances but the keeper did well to charge him so quickly and make himself big, and he'd only just come on the pitch 10 minutes earlier. Had he been missing chance after chance it's an issue, but the bigger issue for me has to be the chance we squandered at 1-0 as more importantly our chance creation in general when the game state has us either losing or drawing. We struggle to create any big chances and then blame whichever player for not converting the one per game we get. It's blaming the sympton rather than the cause.
-- I'd bet on Trossard coming out of that scenario bespectacled, with no one commenting on the difficulty of the opportunity. Somehow Martinelli manages to Martinelli it, and folks want to give him a pass.
Umm every player misses chances. Shame for us our misses seem much worse than others because there isn't another, and another, and another we are expecting. After their goal some of us didn't even expect another shot on target, let alone another goal, considering we had just 1 (maybe 2) in the whole game prior to that. But in any case, your example of Trossard himself isn't immune from missing chances,
-- But we probably don't fucking win the fucking league this year because Martinelli. 🙂
Maybe you're right though and that Trossard is the reason we didn't win the League that in 23/24. I'd personally call that scapegoating a player who has scored many goals for us for missing a chance, but that's just me.
