3 HUGE misses in the last 15 months:

Away to Bayern April 2024 - 0-0 - he had a golden chance of making it 0-1 which have changed the tie completely

Away to Bournemouth earlier last season - 0-0 - he had a huge chance he fluffed that would have altered the course of that game and who knows title race

Home to PSG - 0-1 - one on one with the keeper before HT. Score that we prob win CL.

Claudius Watched his comp for that game and it was similar to his Arsenal outings—he rarely beats his man, but he absolutely runs a couple of quality defenders ragged. Then he beats his man for that gilt-edged chance and Cunha wastes it. Havertz or Saka would've scored that one.

No way Martinelli could play 9 for us, he's even worse suited to that.

His first touch isn't clean enough and he's not strong enough in duels to out-muscle central defenders (it's not just about height and strength either, even Jesus is pretty good at winning those balls).

Bottom line he's a great player but he doesn't quite suit our system and Arteta's not about to change it. We are clearly committed to territorial domination and high pressing.

Martinelli thrives once play breaks up and becomes more open, but with our slow scoring he's usually been exhausted and in need of being subbed by that stage.

One of the main reasons I like him is precisely because he doesn't suit our system. I'd fear that with someone less chaotic and more to Arteta's playbook, when not near our top level, we'd be a collection of stars that collapse into a footballing black hole of never-ending horseshoeness and gentle probing. We'd do nothing more than tickle defences under the chin.

At least Martinelli forces something to happen. Even if he tries to take someone on and loses it, it upsets the rhythm of the game and forces a new phase.

Btw, not really discussed is that Martinelli’s numbers shot in in the last 3 months of the season. We saw that he was spending more time in the interior during that period. His shots per game leapt up to 3+ during that period, which is what you want of a top winger. We need to find ways for him to keep doing this

Yeah he was definitely coming on stronger back half of the season. Was it the Merino effect as well as his recovery from injury? It has seemed to me Havertz suits Martinelli's game less than any 9 we've had play with him.

It might be a smidgen premature to bin Gabi if we're about to sign a star forward. I think the rest of our forwards will eat next season if we've got just one more option as terrifying to defenders as Saka.

Burnwinter a centre forward that defenders actually have to worry about in terms of movement would be huge. Imagine if teams are trying to double Saka and deal with a proper CF threat. That'd massively free up the left.

Qwiss This is it. The right signing is worth the 10 extra goals he scores and the 10 more we get from the terror he creates.
