Reyes on his day was phenomenal, but - this may be my memory playing tricks with me - even as someone who loved him, I found him a bit sometimesish.

Martinelli is now producing consistent levels of threat from the left, even in games like last week when he doesn't score, he does something to contribute to the game and his level of threat is pretty consistent. And then you have a game like today where, even in an excellent team performance overall and even if he hadn't scored and assisted, he was clearly the best player on the pitch.

Martinelli is our most dangerous winger since Sanchez. He’s got that dawg in him.
He’s sent celebrated defenders like TAA and Fofana into therapy. Fofana especially should’ve been on a red by halftime. The kid is unstoppable.
It is great to see how he has bounced back from an injury that used to leave him in actual tears in the field whenever he was tackled as he feared he would never achieve his dream

His dribbling and touch has really improved as well, very difficult to get the ball off him. Sky is the limit for this guy.

He's quite similar to Alexis. Not as good yet but if he continues this trajectory the sky is his ceiling. To be better than Saka this season takes some doing.

I keep mentioning this but this guy was playing futsal and only started in some Brazilian amateur league when we signed him. He's raw as hell and already developed so quickly. Incredible really. Credit to Unai and his scouting team for discovering him.

And I still think he can be a very good CF too like Alexis. Martinelli heading ability is very good let's not forget

There was such a telling moment in the All or Nothing documentary when Steve Round was talking about Martinelli and said something like "I just love him, I love him to bits". For the cameras? Maybe, but he didn't say about anyone else. And you saw in his interactions with Edu, how comfortable he feels at the club.

I'm not casting aspersions when I say this, but as Martinelli's world of possibilities expand around him, I hope he manages to stay humble because I believe that as much as his talent, it's his attitude that's got him to the level he's at now. And the really exciting thing to ponder is how much better he can get.

Feel like he might need to develop a little more physically before he could be considered a genuine centre forward option, but if and when that happens...

I'm getting Robbery vibes from Martinelli and Saka. I've been quite disappointed with Saka's tidiness on the ball this season, but he came up big yesterday. Hopefully, it's just a slow start to the season and he plays himself into form.

Everyone is doubling or tripling up against Saka though, because they know one on one he is unplayable. He also has specific instructions to stick to the touchline a lot. Considering those circumstances he is doing quite well, but he will find ways to impose himself on games even more I'm sure.

Interesting that he found his way into the box for his first goal a week after not doing so and missing out on a tap in against Spurs.

TBH I'm not that worried if he develops as a CF or not = it didn't do CR7 nor Sanchez any harm.

I also think the LFC performance will provide a shot in the arm for both Martinelli and Saka in regards to their development in front of goal, and I expect to see both become genuine goal threats and game changers by the end of the season.

Very true. Reyes was too inconsistent, but at his best he was simply a phenomenal footballer. World class.

Martinelli isn't quite there, but he has improved so much. Last season he often received the ball standing still out wide, which made him easy to defend. This season he is much better at timing his movement (dropping deep, running in behind etc) and he is able to receive the ball in stride, going straight at the defender/goal. He still needs to work on his decision making in the final third, but he has been outstanding this season.

Yep.

Can't remember where I saw/ heard it (the Wrighty's House podcast maybe?), but Martinelli was talking about how he'd been working on taking his first touch with either foot, which has obviously helped him to be able to take the ball on the run. It looks to have made quite a difference to his game.

His touch was a big weak spot when he first broke through but he's managed to turn it into a strength.

Love this guy. It was clear he was a superstar in the making when he broke into the EL team under Emery way back when. Looking forward to seeing him continue to grow with us.

God Reyes was magical. He would have excelled in this era with more protection

Reyes had such ability and vision. He was quite one-footed though and playing him wide left totally wasted his abilities
