O globo is as official as it gets for Brazilian news. Hope he makes it. Would love a tricky Brazzer flip flaping off the wing and creating havoc.

is he actually any good? why the small fee?

What type of fee were you expecting to have to pay to a club that only competes in the Sao Paulo local league? £6m seems quite high.

Of course there is the off chance that he could be amazing but, as of now, nobody knows.
I'm hoping there is more to him than the clips have shown but cannot get the Wellington Silva experience out of my mind.
Due to those doubts i think £6m is quite high for a guy the newspaper has speculated may go to our academy.

I'm hoping this is the kind of guy Edu's scout network has identified ahead of the European networks getting clued up on him, hence the low price. I am really hopeful that there are a few guys like this in Brazil. If we bring 6 or 7 of them and 2 of them turn out to be super quality talents, that's awesome

No way our 40m budget is believable when we are spending 6m on a youth prospect

Give him some carabao and Europa minutes and see how he gets on

Wellington actually looked a lot more exciting than this kid. Don't want to shoot him down just yet he might surprise everyone but the footage shows basically nothing

was my thought as well. looks okay, but hes basically playing against really low level competition in those clips and just looks okay. if he was a big talent, i assumed that the big clubs would have been circling and the fee would be higher. maybe we're just so far ahead of the game. i had to suppress a laugh while typing that

Co-signed. Struggling to see the hype but like others have said, hope this is someone we've picked up before he explodes.

Agree that Wellington looked better - his issues appeared to be temperament rather than talent. Great scouting would be able guage that to a degree.

He's playing against Corinthians in one of the clips; that's not low-level competition.

"Playing for a fourth division side in the Campeonato Paulista (state championships) would normally see his influence limited against bigger sides, but he rose to the challenge, scoring six goals and assisting three."

Anyway, I like his posture on the field and the fact that he seems able to dribble and get around players out wide.

Decent hair too.

Sounds like an odd compliment but I like his posture too. He has a hint of that effortless gliding trait that the likes of Pires and Kaka had.

Agreed.

Wellington's Fluminense highlight reels are much more impressive than Martinelli's.
As we all know, players at this level have the skills but need the right attitude and determination.
Wellington was slammed for lacking this but, for me, i think the failure to secure a work permit year after year after year destroyed the kid. If he had gone to manu, they would've given him the "exceptional talent" visa as Blatter's corrupt FIFA always backed them when the home office consulted them. We used the principled front door approach and got Vela, Galindo, Botelho and Silva rejected time and again.

Wellington is doing much better now back in Brazil. Hope we haven't ruined his career
