As one of the few who wore but never fell in love with it, the half in half out approach is a good compromise as it's popularity with the current fanbase cannot be denied.

Puma quality was horrible. Cheap printed badges.

Nike was much better. Have the Home 'Henry' 04-05 kit and it's still in great condition.

Adidas is supposed to be good too but in general I think quality of all kits have gone down from the level of early 0's and 90's.

It's great for him if, as you speculated, he had been asked/requested/instructed to do so but do you really think Adidas/Arsenal marketing team would likely employ such a guerrilla tactic?
I hope i'm wrong but i'm more inclined to believe his normal "act first then think later" approach may cost him a similar opportunity in the future as corporations will no longer trust him to keep a secret and he needs every penny given his personal financial situation.
