Wow. He went in. More power to the Careem boys who are cashing out thanks to Uber. They’ve done superbly well for themselves. I suspect a few more of these current unicorns will have similar dynamics, in the hope that they too can miraculously build a frictionless, inter-connected business like Amazon and Alibaba. But those businesses have real logic behind their models and required good fortune to click.

Any discussion of corporate morals starts with Facebook. I hate that I feel tethered to them because everybody I know uses WhatsApp. I dropped Facebook/Messenger and Instagram mid last year for a number of reasons. Each week when I see these headlines about their main apps I’m not surprised. I suspect they’ve created a win at all costs culture where speed and scale trump security and other factors that would protect user interests.

The US is suffering from opioid abuse and we are not far behind.
Worryingly, even the NHS and our supposedly powerful "tax man/woman" are covering up (result of Jeremy Hunt's managers running it rather than clinicians?) the problem.

I don’t see what problem the taxman is covering up. If you read the article that reports on the tax situation it’s clear that Diverted Profits Tax and HMRC intervention has led to a change in the groups tax reporting. I can’t speak for why the arrangements before 2016 were in place as long as they were however some of the claims and figures seem exaggerated. Tax is just another expense to a lot of businesses, with well paid lawyers and accountants paid a lot of money to identify weaknesses, loopholes and contrived arrangements to minimise tax charges. It’s an ongoing cycle, and the consultation and enactment of legislation to counter certain issues can take time which doesn’t help.
