Can't imagine how much I'd have to forget as a fan before whining about a player was the worst thing I remember enduring.
Let me clarify, it's the worst debate I remember enduring and that's because it's bullshit. The outcome of our handling of Saliba is currently unknown.
If Saliba returns to the club, integrates into the squad and features next season then the decision to send him on loan and return with experience would have been the right decision.
If his relationship with the club has been damaged because we sent him on loan and he ends up leaving, then his handling would have been a failure.
At this current point in time, we don't know how his career will pan out. It's pure speculation and claims that he would do well or poorly are unfalsifiable. He is out loan gaining experience which is a perfectly reasonable path for someone his age to be on at this point in his career. How this warrants criticism is beyond me.
Instead of taking pleasure in the fact that the club sent him on a successful loan where he's become an integral part of the team and excelled enough to be capped for his country. This is used as stick to beat the club with. These same critics will be onto the club the next time we loan someone out and for whatever reason it doesn't work.
Sure, if Saliba leaves when the dust settles then by all means, bring out the pitchforks, but don't bring them out before the movie has ended.
It's tiresome.
