We are two centrebacks away from being comfortably better than them
I wish you were right but i don't think 2 CBs automatically make our defence better than theirs.
Our FB's are really poor defensively too.
Also their midfield is far superior so even if we fix the defence we would be kidding ourselves if we believed we were comfortably better than them. I remember the odd game when our midfield looked good but, for the most part, the lack of a functioning DM has hamstrung us. Even Watford, an average team, dominated our midfield for 80mins with 10 men as Deeney had been sent off.
This is hyperbole.
They were playing Trippier and Aurier last season; neither can defend for shit. And most weeks their midfield consisted of Winks, Dier or Wanyama; I rest my case.
There's a reason they lost 13 games in the League last season and 21 games in all competitions.
Not that this was your point, but Ndombele is a great signing and will help, but he won't make up for Eriksen, if he leaves, in a creative sense; his final ball and play in the final third generally is is where his game falls down compared to the elite centre mids in football, and he is no defensive midfielder; that's not his strong suit. He's an "8" with great dribbling, exceptional ball retention skills and good athelticism.
They still need a defensive midfielder and will need a replacement for Eriksen if he moves on, otherwise they'll be weak again next season.
