I used to think tap in merchants like RVN is overrated but you cannot teach positional sense in the box, the smell for goals is very different beetween top and average strikers.

Timing your run, finding space, getting on the right side of the defender, losing your man, etc are all more important than shooting technique for a striker.

Still not making any sense. Why are we limiting the sample to this season? Auba's scored some excellent goals, finished with the Golden Boot last season and scoring at a rate comparable with our best strikers in a team that requires him to take most of his chances. You don't have to like his style but you can't dismiss his record. As for not scoring worldies, whatever - that's like a 15 year old's idea of what a striker is. I bet you thought Pires' tap ins could be easily replicated as well.

He's just saying it's not like another striker in Aubas place wouldn't have scored a number of goals too. Aubameyang has been great for us but I agree that he evades a lot of criticism compared to some of his team mates.

Of course, every player that has built up credit will get leeway but if he goes through a scoring drought, the criticism will come as fans have allegiance to the club, not the player.

Well said but, unfortunately, that geezer's mind is made up and he won't even appreciate this video.

Aside from Auba (40) and Laca (21), our two top scorers across all competitions between the start of last season and now are... Martinelli and Willock, with 7 each.

If there are plenty of goals to be had for everyone in this team then people are either passing them up or Aubameyang is stealing all the chances. But neither of those points is supported by any kind of stats.

Don’t forget that Aubameyang is a very wasteful striker as well. We deserve a less wasteful striker apparently

Hopefully Tierney becoming a first team fixture changes that and they'll be a few more headers in Auba's next 50 goals.

We aren't great at crossing but we aren't that bad either. I'd say PL defenders are more of an issue, they tend to be better in the air. Expect for David Luiz that is but poor Auba never gets to play against him.

I disagree. Every time I watch other PL teams, I'm always struck by the crosses they get into the box in comparison to us. I see average fullbacks whipping in pacy, accurate deliveries.

Even if my view is a little skewed like always when you watch other teams, I'm convinced we're quite a bit worse than the average.

All our fullbacks, even the backups like Maitland-Niles and Chambers, have a decent number of assists over the last 16 months though. I think the biggest difference is that our crosses tend to be low and aimed for space in-behind or across the face of goal rather than for the head of the striker. Consider the goal Auba scored at Newcastle this season, for instance.

Auba has probably spent half of his time here playing wide too, so we don't always have someone to aim for.

Bold Tone

I agree as with Bellerin, AMN, and Kolasinac providing width, it's mainly been the hopeful hard low ball across the face of the goal. Nobody is heading those. Monreal had the ability to pick out a striker but he mostly played in a back 3 so didn't venture forward much. In his first few games, Tierney has shown what we have been missing but no doubt helped by Martinelli who makes the missing near-post runs I've been banging on about for months.
