I dont think so , we fell into the same kind of traps time and again under Wenger. Its more important to get the 3 points and then think about the next game. The kind of lineup we played will always backfire against teams like Everton. They look at Elneny and Douzi in midfield with only Laca up front flanked by a flaky Mhikitarian and a well marked Ozil and think: We can beat this lot.

Playing Mustafi over Mavropanos and Elneny over Willock despite continuous poor performances are very poor decisions.

Worried that we’ve got the best youth prospects coming through for many a year and a coach who won’t uss them.

I think it says more about our squad depth than anything else. The midfield without Xhaka and Torreira was always going to come up short eventually. Missing Bellerin has been a huge blow too.

I really do think he should have started Iwobi though. That was his key mistake IMO. Iwobi should be starting every away game, his graft and strength are key if we want to beat the likes of Leicester, Wolves, etc

I legit rate both Elneny and Mustafi below Jenkinson when it comes to helping the team.
As for playing 2 number 10s ahead of Elneny and a kid in midfield away from home. Insanity!
One of Ozil/Mkhi should have come off, at half time, instead of Kola who is our best wide option.
I give him a break as he has done well lately.
The bubble i was on last week has well and truly been burst!

I would agree with your Iwobi push. He does such a great job of putting opposing fullbacks on the back foot. Was surprised he sat. He migh have done a job in place of Ozil who was a waste today. He’d also be useful in the context of the industrial midfield as he does the best job on the team of linking the CMs to the strikers.

What is the benefit of resting players before that busy period and falling further back?
We are out of both domestic cups so nobody is tired as we have had no extra games.
All the lads have just come back from a warm weather holiday in Dubai.
We are in no more difficult position than any of our rivals but you are not seeing spud rest Kane or chelsea rest Hazard.
This was a fuck up by the manager as he got carried away by the surprise line-up that overwhelmed manu.
He then tried to rectify his mistakes at half-time but failed although i'm not sure any player would've changed the result as the whole team, goalkeeper apart, were flat..
There's not a single person that was pleased by that starting midfield and i'm not surprised by the stats Klaus put out.

Exactly. I can find it in myself to sympathise with top flight footballers over personal setbacks like injuries, illnesses, deaths in the family or other off field issues, but not over money issues.

I'm disappointed with the result in this match. Must admit I turned off at half time because it was late and I was feeling dispirited by our limp performance.

Everton have been solid lately but it's a big shame we've squandered our positive momentum and will now probably drop back out of the four, even though it's still ours for the taking if we recover strongly.

A number of wins to number of games ratio is a good stat for evaluating any manager in my opinion. After all, their job is literally to build a team that wins games. Regardless of era, regardless of finances or spending, etc. you play the hand you are dealt, and make the most of it. The managers of previous eras did the same and most of the names in the list Clrnc has provided were probably exceptional and successful managers in their own right. Of course it’s not an apples to apples comparison, but it’s a great starting point for assessing a manager’s early performance.

Its for all comps though so you get the lower league and Europe fodder in the cups skewing the stat a little.
