Agreed, although I'd still prefer to get our best XI 'fit for purpose' before speculating on rough diamonds and talented youngsters.
I'm really keen to see what Emery can do when he is able to put a purpose built team together at this higher level.

Lol. I’ve always been cool with the guy. Only issue I had was the entertainment quality of the football in December. Other than that, he’s doing what I want. He’s on his way to improving our performances from last year with a clear identity. Qualifying for Champs League would be a very welcome bonus.

To put that statistic into perspective, the second highest entry in the records is Manchester City with 20.7%, which they posted during their 100-point title-winning campaign last year.

i have read some comments on the internet about how he got the best out of ramsey and ozil. well he just finally started playing them regularly. we would have so much more points if he didnt f*ck with them from the start. and i think wenger would have achieved so much more in his last years if he had auba and laca tandem uprfront. think also this, not emery tactical genius is the ultimate source of improvement this season - from years od giroud-welbeck/sanogo horror to laca-auba. ( last season obviously doesnt really count.) add a competent goalkeeper and we are here.

a proper striker wins you games on his own. proper goalkeeper too. we adressed both areas in one season and that alone gave us so many extra points.

this is also partly on wenger but that is a different story

This is such an unproven idea. That we left points on the table by not playing these guys all season long. We have a team that’s 4th in the league with a game in hand, and people still have weird shots for a manager who is doing a really good job managing a team that he inherited with lots of quality, contractual and personality challenges

well i just assume that because they are one of the very best players at the club. and he played worse players because they didnt fit his style. and then he starded playing them and they are playing and fitting well.and we are looking stronger imho

I still think he's highly questionable, but there was a narrow scope for reaching our targets this season and he's currently within it. Leaving personal opinions about squad management and style aside for the time being, one can't really ask for much more than that. 3rd or 4th is absolutely where we should be with this squad, the importance of getting back into Champions League cannot be overstated, and if Emery can deliver that he'll have deserved a second year.

We have 21 points left to play for though, and I've watched this club enough to not be wary about potential banana peels.

I thought the first few months were promising. We then struggled for a bit, but lately we've been playing well. All in all he's done an ok job. Team looks better than last season, and there seems to be a certain idea behind the way we play - although it doesn't always work. I also think he has far too much confidence in certain players (Iwobi, Mustafi, Guendouzi).

No one, not even Emery, has confidence in Mustafi. He's playing out of necessity....

According some pundits Emery is over-achieving with what they consider to be the worst/weakest squad of the top6.
Likewise I also saw a recent article that indicated that we have had the worst impact in the top6 re injuries this season.

I do not think the impact of the season ending injuries to Holding, Bellerin & Welbeck can be understated in terms of our options, but also the timing that saw those injuries occur in that period where we played TH & MU at the start of Dec. Not only did they impact key positions and roles in terms of Emery's preferred shape and style, but at the time our cover options were not ready to contribute. Perhaps even more significantly I'd also suggest that the most significant impact of the injuries has seen us change shape from 4231 to a 343 type (out of necessity during that same period of instability and inconsistency re the player availability), and in doing so it also contributed to our performance struggles.

We had the Liverpool game but that was in the afore-mentioned injury crisis. Most of us smelled a beating coming.

I think Emery deserve credit for building squad depth in a season when people said the team was very poor. This is a large part of why we are still challenging. It relates to Emery’s favorites:

Guendouzi has been an incredible find, and will be important next season as well. Maybe Ramsey plays a little more, but I’m also thankful that we have been able to keep Ramsey alive all season, which typically doesn’t happen. I don’t think that’s coincidental
Mustafi: as noted, there has been little choice, unless you guys want more of Jenkinson
Iwobi: has been such an important link player for our midfield and offense. One of our most important players in several games.

By investing in these players, Emery has built depth in a team that people assumed had none earlier this season. This will be particularly important in the next 2 weeks as we navigate Napoli. We dominated Newcastle without Xhaka, Torreira, Koscielny, Mkhitaryan; and have survived the 3 big season-ending injuries.
