OK for me the aim is to not lose this game so as to build upon the momentum from the NLD. That is not to say that we should look to play for a draw, but that 1 point is the minimum if we are to be taken seriously and to throw down the gauntlet re top4.

There are one or two MU & LFC supporters at work who consider the prospect of a resurgent AFC as the last thing they want to see atm.

I agree with that. Given our run of fixtures (which involves playing Y***ted, Chelsea, City and Liverpool in our next 11 fixtures), need to ensure that we stay in touch with the rest of the top 4 chasing pack through that period.

Play for the win, settle for a tie.

A tie wouldn't be bad for the team psyche in that the players would be frustrated they didn't get more. Where as a loss can deflate the team following the NLD win.

I think how we play this game will be really telling about the players buy in to Emery. Not easy playing another big game so shortly after a historic win, will be hard for them to stay (as) up for this one.

This is a new regime, fair number of new players, new coaching staff, and none of those stupid Mourinho wind up Arsene comments. This time around JM has too much to worry about in the locker room and on the pitch.
If Arsenal plays with calmness and poise, we can take this MU team.
Emery, known for his preparation, has burned the midnight oil, I hope.

Aside from a few possible tweeks to personnel and formation, I don't expect much to change in our approach. I think we'll press aggressively and play a relatively high line, just as we did against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Hope we take our first half chances today. Second half will be tougher than usual I think being the second big game in succession, midweek, and mourinhos shitty tactics.
Get the lead early and play at our pace from there.

Best and most important NLD in years, and likely one of the few games people will remember from this season as we're not in the CL and won't challenge for the league. Europa and FA Cup aside - and who knows how that will transpire - that game will be a central memory from the 2018/2019 season.

we havent beaten them in the league at old trafford since september 2006. adebayor's goal.

we have played them 28 times since in all competitions. we have 5 wins, 4 of them at home in the league, once away in the FA Cup in 2015.

since that win in 2006 in the league, here are our league results at man united:

L, D, L, L, L, L, L, D, L, D, L

so, yea, i think it would be a pretty "historic" result for us to go there in the league and win. we haven't won there in the league in 12 years.

Gilberto bossed their entire team like he was a peak Vieira that day (and missed a penalty to boot). Such an underrated footballer.

i miss gilberto. he seemed to decline pretty rapidly. he was a top class player, then he sort of lost it really quickly. also, i will really never forgive wenger for making gallas captain after henry left and not gilberto. that was dumb

it took us 10 years, but i think we finally plugged that void in the middle of our midfield

To clarify, my mention of a historic win was in regards to the Tottenham game.

I think we’ll still be a bit high off the Tottenham win. It’s Emery’s responsibility to make sure they come back down to earth in time for this game.

He only has to point at what happened to Spurs to let them know how things could turn ugly real quick without the right attitude and application

He kept playing well in Greece and for Brazil for years though. I just think he and Wenger were done with eachother after the snub, and it's easy to see why. He lost both the captaincy and his place in the team because he arrived a few weeks late from playing Copa America with Brazil.

wenger made a bunch of really strange decisions around that time. really, starting with the CL final and taking off pires. i always kind of think back to that night, and how things might have gone differently for the club in so many ways if we'd have held on and won the CL.
