Not only did he push up, at one point he made a run to the byline (then realised if he fucked up the cross we'd be open).

I think it did matter that he did push up. It helped exert more pressure on Bournemouth and reduced their options to break out of our press.

they generally did in the second half, not just Holding (I remember stafi very high up, but even Sokratis played higher).

Holding is a pleasant surprise for me. Till this year I actually didn't believe he'll make it, but he's quite impressive. wasn't flawless, but showed some good qualities yesterday.

If Kos returns in a good enough form, and Mustafi is our 4th choice CB (only way I'd somehow accept him staying here), perhaps things aren't as bad as they seemed.

Watching the highlights again it's clear that it really was a miracle we got even a point here. Our performances must improve fast or the collapse is coming. Your goalkeeper can't be man of the match every week.

Fun to watch a young player like Holding develop.
He surprised me a couple of times with bursts of speed.
Of course, nobody was around him to put on the pressure.
A win like this makes a huge difference in not only the standings, but in confidence going forward.
Anyway, it will keep me engaged in what Arsenal does as opposed to last year when I lost interest.

Last season he seemed to have lost confidence when in possession and led to the ball being turned over too often. He has recovered some what, but still doesn't look entirely comfortable. If we are going to use a CB in that way effectively, they must look to pass the ball forward rather than sideways and back to goal.

I've only seen the extended highlights but good grief this place has become a depressing sinkhole recently, reminds me not to visit during games. I mean it was depressing for years but that was under the ancien regime, having lived through that I'd have imagined you fickle fucks would give the new boss and team some leeway

Not happy with our defensive options, but you’re right. Sokratis I think is the best of a bad bunch. Holding is improving quickly and noticeably too.

But always one Mustafi moment from pressure and panic.

Yeah Mustafi is the big concern. He’s just not clear headed enough and there isn’t enough upside to make up for it. I have to say of all the players to get dropped I’m surprised that he’s been the one who has been ever present.

Holding has been our best centre half this season. I'd love to see us get a dominant centre half to come in and partner him for the next couple of years. Mustafi is too error prone and Sokratis is bang average and goes missing from defence too often. Was lucky not to give away a penalty when he got booked too.

Mustafi took it forward too. It was just Holding in particular who stood out. Overall, I don't think CBs moving forward was a big problem in the match. First half we clearly needed to rejig our positioning so the centrebacks moving up was the least of our concerns.

During matches, i'm too busy getting pissed off by the ref or commentator that i don't have time to read other's emotional reaction posts in between watching the match and posting my own. I catch up at half time/full time and react accordingly which works for me.

Yeah I do pretty much the same but I meant reading match day threads when I'm not watching the game. I think the point of these threads especially when we're playing in the league should be primarily calling the ref and co-commentators names similar to what you'd be doing in the stadium but whenever I check in its just people stating how much they hate our players.

I thought we were alright this match and we were good enough for at least a draw if not the win. We can point to Bournemouth's shots and Leno's saves but at the same time our own forwards were also a little profligate. We also improved in the middle of the first half as opposed to only pushing the second.

The subs did confuse me. Doozy on for Torreira I hope was a fitness issue, but if the point was to keep control why not AMN instead? I also felt Miki needed to come off way earlier for Rambo or Ozil.

Did Leno make a load of saves? I couldn't watch the match properly but I didn't see many saves of MotD2.

He made a few classy saves but the most impressive thing was his box play. Leno reads the game and comes out to defuse situations in a way that our other keepers aren't able to. Bournemouth would have had a ton more shots on target if it weren't for him. He reminded me of big Jens in this game.
