We don't have many South Americans here I guess but I still think it's more than worth discussing the rise of Jair Bolsonaro and his almost inevitable imminent election. This man is Trump on steroids, insulting a woman at his rallies as "not being worth getting raped by me", openly glorifying the Brazilian juntas, he'd rather have a dead son than a gay one and at this point you can probably imagine what he thinks of black Brazilians or any other conceivable minority.
In true Trump fashion he's chosen a number two man in Hamilton Mourao that somehow makes him look sane. This guy by all accounts has a massive inferiority complex for being mixed race, is pro Eugenics and has called for the military (He's a retired general) to putsch Rousseff out of power several times.
Since Rousseff has been toppled in a coup detat most expected former president Lula to run again and most polls had him winning the election by a landslide. Cue the same extreme right judge Moro who heads the "Car Wash" commission that ousted Rousseff and more fabricated accusations, leading to the incarceration and 23h a day solitary confinement of Lula. Now the remaining left candidate Haddad has like two weeks to pull a major miracle and save one of the biggest democracies in the world from withdrawing from democracy
Decent article to get up to speed with what's happening there
