Injuries and lack of focus outside the pitch, seem to remember he was quite the character with his off pitch activities. Had that one great run when he became the first choice centre half and made both Squillaci and Koscielny look passable next to him, the latter was useless for a while without him.
Injuries have absolutely ruined him though, that knee injury vs United I think ended his career basically in 10/11. In Germany he'd always have some issue or illness later too.
