I watched the entire asian cup, this Qatar team is pretty impressive because all of their players have been playing together in their special high investment development academy Aspire. Some very special talents coming out from that group like Afif and Almoez Ali who scored that wonderful first goal.

Even before the Asian Cup they have had some very impressive results from friendlies against big nations. They are really determined to do well in their own World Cup.

Probably won’t happen, but that would suggest that the only reasons the teams that dominate world football are able to do so is because they are economically stronger, or have more resources at their disposal. Fortunately teams like Brazil, Argentina, say hello. Talent still has a lot to do with it. And if indeed they do, then there might be a hotbed of talent in the Middle East that needs to be tapped into, which isn’t a bad thing

I don't see the problem with what they're doing. Not like they're buying players they simply invested a lot into their facilities and now reap the rewards, literally the same thing that Germany did in the 90s when they laid the foundation for their WC win in 2014.

I know. just annoyed by the state of football, which they played a large role in corrupting of late. At least in this instance, unlike track and field, they truly built from the bottom-up.

Half correct to be honest, Qatar is going that way but to speed up the process (they don't have much time before 2022), they scouted and bought some young players from other countries over and naturalised them quickly.

10 years ago while preparing for a bid of the world cup they actually spent loads to buy South American players like Sebastian Soria who are not good enough to play for their home nations but still class in Asia standards. They realised that wasn't going to work as these players are normally old and going downhill so they went the academy route which is smarter and longer term rewards

This happened during the weekend but I only saw it now: Tyrone Mings debuted for Aston Villa and immediately made sure that Reading's Nelson Oliveira won't win any beauty contests in the future.

Reading tweeted that Oliveira had facial surgery the next day. It's an absolutely disgusting stamp. Mings knew exactly what he was doing too. He looks down before planting his foot and he doesn't react like it's a mistake at all. It's not the first time he makes sure to catch someone in the face either. This is the same guy who did this against Zlatan two seasons back:

Bloke shouldn't be allowed on a football pitch.

100% intentional, forget whether he looks there you don't naturally plant your foot where he did.

Oliveiras face looks horrible but he's genuinely lucky, he could have had his forehead caved in. Hope he presses charges, Mings deserves prison for that.
