Here we go again with the bargaining
I think the danger here is overreaction and overcorrection. We tend to want to throw the baby out with the bath water is my fear. I don’t mind a rebuild, but what does a promising team mean in substantive terms? What concrete objectives and goals and reasonable expectations would we have of this promising team? Let’s not pretend like this is Ajax and the Dutch league. The farther we are from CL places, the harder it will be to regain it, and this is in the era of City and Liverpool and big money spending United and Chelsea. If we are struggling with Everton and Wolves, for all the problems we had last season, then it means we have taken a step backwards. All for what? What would that guarantee us? And that’s not even considering the coaching situation - do we trust or expect that Emery is the man for such a tear down? That probably wasn’t in his brief when we hired him.
What we are doing currently is already a lot in terms of the behind the scenes restructuring. I’d rather a safe and steady approach to the affairs of the first team and trying to see if, with a few new, improved quality signings who are aligned with the manager’s vision, we can get some marginal improvement in our attacking performances and defensive record, and see how far up the table that might push us.
