I can see how someone might not be fully invested in their national team, but was about to say that I couldn't understand why they'd want another country to beat them.

I feel mostly feel sorry for the Irish football team so I support them.

If England can get to penalties I reckon they'll go through

I get why people would want to support a country despite having players from clubs from other teams, and I can also understand why some people's club loyalty preventd them from being able to do so. I don't see how supporting them makes you less loyal to your club team however.
