Very interesting development. I think he would have been moved on had Wenger remained manager. I like a lot of things in his game; particular that he's excellent on the ball, however, I'm not sure whether he's got it in him to make that next step and become a centreback good enough to start for Arsenal. What do you think?

Wow. That's a huge vote of confidence considering he only just signed a 2 year extension and Emery barely knows him on a personal level.

I have to say, I don't see any massive potential in him. He's decent but nothing more. This could well mean we aren't signing any other CBs

I think Chambers is the kind of guy who'll lead a good defence in a few years. Not sure he'll ever be good enough for a title-winning team, but that's not us at the moment so.

I think he's well worth keeping, especially if we have two new starters in mind this summer. I don't imagine it will sit well with Mustafi who already wanted to leave last year.

Wow, interesting.

For what it's worth I think he's very talented aswell. He was very impressive in his debut season but he's struggled with injuries and his stint at right back didn't help him in his development.

Kid was a doofus. What are we doing?

That being said, young defensive player development under late tenure Wenger mustโ€™ve been a nightmare, considering how poor even our more experienced options looked back there

That's very interesting. Have to say I haven't seen much in him, he's tidy on the ball but is severely lacking in aggression and not exactly imposing physically or quick. Emery must have seen something in training if he makes this one of his first actions as an Arsenal manager

Agree. He did very well out on loan too.

Heโ€™s left a positive impression on me since he bosssd if at centre back against City on his debut. Good on the ball, good tackle, good in the air and I actually do think heโ€™s got some aggression in him, heโ€™s not passive. Needs to improve his 1 v 1 defending more than anything else and perhaps his focus/positioning.

I donโ€™t think itโ€™s a coincidence that itโ€™s the tactical aspect of defending that all of our centre backs struggle with.

He was our best CB last season everytime he played without a doubt, happy with this and see huge potential in him being consistently top class at CB. Just stop playing him at RB.

Holding is the one I'm worried about who has taken a step back

Xhaka and chambers extensions eh. Hmm

Great talent - more than worth it.

Fair point.

Besides, the club are really sticking their necks out here so there must see something.

I have no issue with this. If he ends up not really making it, at least we can get a decent fee for him. I don't think he was that bad last season when he played, but i do think he needs someone with experience next to him.. (Sokratis maybe?). He is decent with the ball and can distribute fairly well.

I think all of our CB's will look considerably better with a more rigid midfield structure in front of them, not leaving them so exposed

Fingers crossed that, maybe, Wenger and his coaches were just rubbish at developing players (Vela, Gnabry, etc) past a certain level.

Wonder what this means for Mustafi. We're signing Sokratis, Chambo and Holding have just signed new deals, Mavropanos is highly rated and is obviously going to be pushed by Sven. Unless we're basically giving up on Kos to make it back, that's 5 centre backs who look like they're not going anywhere.

We're in for that turkish lad too apparently. I think it spells the end for Mustafi and a loan for Holding.
