They're fucked though. Midtable beckons especially with Roman losing interest seemingly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they signed Pulisic on the loan back basis in anticipation of this ban. It's been in the works for a while.

They actually don't. The ban is for two transfer windows and ends in January 2020. They won't be able to sign anyone this summer and next January.

This was my first thought too. Probably made it extra urgent to land Higuain in January too, but jesus christ, you wouldn't want to be stuck with him for another season if he malfunctions. If they'd gone for Piatek instead they'd be good right now regardless of the ban. Such an odd club.

Isn't he on a loan and hence, I assume they won't be allowed to buy him in the summer. I'd assume technically it would be an additional registration that they would not be allowed to make. In any case, word is that they will appeal and that will allow them this summer to buy and even if they lose, the ban will only start in the winter of the 2019-20 season.

Yeah, chances are it won't come into force until Jan at least.

It is, but their appeal won't be processed before after the summer window. This has been the case for every club this has happened to.

If you're referring to Pulisic he was bought outright by Chelsea in January and then loaned back. He's already a registered Chelsea player.

You're right, I forgot about the appeal timeframe. FIFA will probably fasttrack it but CAS always takes a lot of time.

The ban doesn't really matter to them, this is their best chance to blood their youngsters.

Barcelona had a transfer ban a few seasons back - they didn't do too badly.

The question is whether Chelsea are in the right frame of mind to invest like Barcelona did.

The ban might be good for them. If they can delay the actual implementation via appeals, then they can turn this summer into a call to action and really invest in the squad.

Has anybody seen a full game from Hudson-Odoi. I feel like the less he plays, the more valuable he becomes. He’ll be worth 70m pounds by season end.

They’ve happed each time I think. Madrid has it reduced to just one window, but I think Barca and Atletico served full bans.

Chelsea had a ban themselves back in 2009 or so, should have seen them banned from any transfer action for two years of which they served none.

I thought I remembered Barcelona still making loads of signings (including amusingly Suarez at a time when he was banned from all football activity and they were supposed to be banned from making signings), but I didn't follow it that closely. Do they just end up getting it delayed so they can go nuts in the summer and then it doesn't matter?

They were signing but not registering to play, if I recall correctly.
