He thought throwing a pound, 50 or 100 wouldn't make a difference. It did. It was always going to come across as an idiotic bid and it fell into Liverpool's trap to keep the player.
He thought making it public would be counter productive to Liverpool as they would lose the player which they eventually did to Barca. It's true to a certain extent only if we didn't make it such a joke of an offer. Even a simple 41m wouldn't have been seen by the whole world as disrespectful and it was pretty naive of us since we already knew it wasn't a buyout clause.
