I'd go as far as to say VvD is the best defender in the league. There are a lot of other good defenders but they have the advantage of playing with better and more organised teammates while VvD single handedly carried the Southampton defence and transformed Liverpool's backline as well that has been quite open and easy to get at under Klopp.
Alderweireld for me, but Van Dijk is up there still.
VVD's distribution is amazing too, 72 out of 74 passes completed.
Allison is proving to be a worthwhile buy in terms of how he starts the attack. His distribution as expected is better than Ederson
Wanted van Dijk back when he was at Celtic. Still annoyed we didn't go for him, most obvious buy.

He’s a fantastic buy We've missed out on quite a few excellent CBs that have moved up from the lesser sides inside the PL over the last 5 years. This game(and Liverpool's defending over the last few years) serves as a good example of the difference that a commanding CB like van Dijk makes over clowns like Sakho.

We should stop trying to import guys like Mustafi and Sokratis and buy an experienced proven PL defender. VVD was sitting there for years just waiting for the step up.
Who do you suggest we go for?
Maguire would be the obvious choice but if the rumors of Leicester wanting 75 mill are true then it'd be a pretty big gamble.
Not many other choices jumping out at me.
I think Lewis Dunk would do well.
Yeah Dunks solid. Tarkowski would be my first choice from the rest of the PL I think.
Wolves playing really good football to start the game against City. Impressive.
Talking about getting quality players from within the PL- would like us to go for Ruben Neves.
What a save by Rui Patricio. Really good game here
Judging by this first half- Wolves are not your regular run of the mill newly promoted team. Really impressive stuff. Quite a few interesting players to keep an eye out for as well.
Even when Wolves have been impressive City have still hit the post twice and had several big chances other than those two.
Wolves have spent too much to be a normal promoted team but their tactics is impressive against City.
That was a blatant handball but get in.
Yet another example of why PL needs VAR. There have been quite a few considering how early it is in the season.
Lovely dive by Silva.
How was Kompany ever regarded as a great defender?

Don’t think that was hands. Can you 100% say that it was deliberate? And how is the arm in an unnatural position for a diving header?
So typical.

Most hands situations aren't deliberate. The arm is pointing forward away from the body.
Selling your soul to the devil himself does yield results. They have a bunch of very good players but their most important asset is easily Nuno
