I think it's also acceptance that there's a shortage of available candidates going into the summer. Realistically it's either Gollum or Poch.

That run was a) new manager who's not Mourinho boost b) mostly shit teams and c) de Gea playing out of his skin. And still just six points ahead of us who were in meltdown for a good while according to fans and media

Hes a shit ugly troglodyte and it will all end in tears. Heres hoping he'll be in charge of transfers come summer, if they're just half as dumb as in his Cardiff days United will be flirting with relegation before long

The timing of the Mourinho sacking was perfect. Smeagol started off with a run of 5 or 6 easy games. Couple that with a team breathing the biggest sigh of relief in recent history and he had a good start. And then you look at the fact that this team's outcomes were outdoing its performances significantly, and you have to be a bit concerned. I'm happy they've signed him. They probably have higher expectations than what he can achieve. Keeps them in a holding pattern a little longer

Usually KDB and another CM will sit very deep if they don't have Fernandinho.

The equivalent would be us playing Mkhi, Ramsey and Ozil in a midfield 3, whilst our side would get caught on the counter, City's doesn't?

I'm obviously not saying that it doesn't work for City, everyone can see that it does. You seemed to imply that you only needed to buy a bunch of good offensive players and the rest will solve itself though.

I will be more specific.
It works in City’s case because they have a high quality, technical squad that plays offensive, possession football. Against lesser teams, a DM can be a luxury.

It's because of Pep. They are so good in possession that hardly any team get chances to attack them. But as Van Gaal and Palace found out, if you do it correctly City is as weak in defence as it is on paper.

If we have Pep we would probably get away with it most of the time as well

When Barca had Pep they still used Busquets. It’s about finding a balance that works, and of course, the opposition quality matters as well.

How many games has City not played Fernandinho in? Feels like it’s just a few, and when it’s against the likes of Fulham it’s kind of a moot point.

Seems like a discussion that should be triggered only after they try this in the CL or a game vs the Top 6.

Point is if you’re going to play against a bottom feeder with this style and quality, why waste a DM? Every outfield player had a shot on goal. Not sure what else there is. You would t do this against Liverpool
