Shaqiri isn't free, is he?

£12m release clause.

Hope he fires his agent and wants to stay in Portugal.

Where is this Shaqiri hype coming from? He's basically the pub player version of Robben. I don't think I've ever seen him look up to see where is dribbling to.

Shaqiri is a scorer of a few pretty great goals. However, he is not a great goal scorer nor is he a great creator. Next

He created more chances than Ozil last season.

Source?

At any rate, Shaqiri only really turns up in International tournaments.

He created 1 'big chance' more than Ozil according to the premier league website, though he did play an extra 10 games.

But yeah, Shaqiri turns up for about 5 games a season.

Yeah premier league and squawka, he did play more but he definitely does create chances and he’s cheap.

If we’re looking for a winger who can take on players I would prefer Shaqiri over Gelson who relies too heavily on his pace for a winger.

Neither for me.

We need to get the players that can help lay the groundwork for Emery’s plan. Possession and pressing. For me neither Martins or Shaqiri fit that bill. At least with Martins you might get unpredictability and width which is vital.

I would be looking at a striker/winger type. It is the biggest shortcut we can take to achieving something tangible next year. Get someone who can either play on the left or right, and help Lacazette and Aubameyang.

Probably impossible, but if we could land a Martial, Guedes, Werner (cost?), Rashford (would united consider it?), Pavón, it would give us a fighting chance.

I also like Brandt a lot, but i suspect like Werner, he would cost a bomb

The reason people (or at least me) would take a punt on Gelson is because he's free. He's young and even if he turned out shit we'd certainly make a profit on him. If he were to cost 25m or so he'd barely register.

i can get behind this train of thought

That exactly it. We lack depth in attacking wide players. A free winger seems worth it, especially if he performs even reasonably well just a few times.

His agent has apparently confirmed that he will leave Sporting. No news about his destination (except that it is not Benfica).

According to AS he's set to join Atletico.

Just been announced, free transfer to Atleti
