Says it all. Big Will, if you aren't pretty over this fucker by now I don't know what I can tell you.
We're now joking about wanting to set him on fire? I know you say that as a joke BW, but it goes to show the level of personal hatred people have reached when it comes to Ozil. I'm done with the guy, and have been for some time. And I understand why people are upset at the burden it puts us under. I mean I get the weight he's putting around our necks with his current contract and refusal to leave but at the end of the day we, as a club, offered him the contract. No one held a gun to our heads and forced us to give it to him.
If the guy clearly knows he won't get anywhere near what he's getting here elsewhere, then can you really blame him for not wanting to give up such a large pay day, at this stage of his career? I mean 8m whilst sitting at home, it's like winning the jackpot. A jackpot we rigged ourselves so he could win.
Personally, I'm pissed off at Ozil, not for his wages and refusal to leave, but for what he's contributed for us on the pitch since the end of the year before he signed the new deal. Just wasn't good enough then and still isn't now. His little run of form going into the contract talks made most of us want to re-sign him at the time, but on the whole he just hasn't come close to producing enough, so yes I am over him and do wish, like I do every year, that he leaves the club. I've come to terms over the past couple years that we won't be able to shift him and will have to wait him out. We are literally months out from that now, the guy barely registers for me anymore.
That being said, I can't harbour hatred towards the guy for not wanting to give up 1.5m a month. Some people mention guys like Sanchez leaving United for a pay cut shows hunger but there is no way Sanchez left on loan without having United pay the portion of his wages that Inter were unwilling to pay, nor is there any way he left them permanently without being paid by United the full 500k+ they owed him for the time he had left, even if his contract with Inter is for a smaller amount. United paid him off big time.
If we just paid off his contract there is no way he'd refuse just to sit around here. But we won't pay him off and he won't leave. He knows he wouldn't be able to get as much at a new club in a transfer, but as a free agent he'd still be able to command a nice signing on fee on top of his wages so he's probably waiting for that.
Like I said it's all about the money, and when you are talking large amounts like that, you'd be kind of stupid throwing that all away at the end of a career knowing you won't get anywhere near that in your life again. He's definitely not hungry for the game anymore and probably just wanting to make as much money as he can before he retires.
I hate that this situation is costing us so much, but I can't have hatred towards an individual (certainly not to the levels some people have) simply because he's honoring his contract and refusing to leave before the end of it without being paid in full. I just can't wait until the end of the season when we can finally be rid of him.
