IMO Ozil is as much a 'victim' of our poor transfers as anything.
He was brilliant in partnership with Sanchez but has seemed lost for an effective outlet since his departure because of the lack of movement and supply.
I think it reached a tipping point under Arteta when it became obvious the back4 & midfield wasn't working and we needed to change shape to bring greater defensive solidity = the needs of the many. Ozil does not fit either the new shape or the work rate required of it, but could still be effective IF the team was fit for purpose.
However the circumstances are that to attempt to build the team around him is not worth the time or money in relation to his remaining time under contract. In an ideal scenario he'd be providing assists for our attack to score, but his contract will be finished before we reach the stability required in midfield and defence in order to carry him, as his effectiveness is based upon being an outlet drifting between the lines.
