Anyway, neither me nor Klaus are saying that Ozil was the right man to give a big contract to, he clearly wasn't. If he was he may have gotten Emery top 4 and paid off his entire contract. We gambled big on that happening, and it didn't work out. But I'm more than ok with that approach.
With Auba I don't really think any of us are in a position to definitively make the call, there are a lot of factors to consider. For one, whats the plan over the summer? If we're not going to buy big or we continue buying kids, then there's an argument to see we should cut our losses because we're unlikely to do much in the next 2-3 years anyway.
If the plan is to buy someone like Partey on the other hand, then that changes things, because with Partey, Auba up top and potentially Pepe in the first XI you have three potentially top class players in the squad, supplemented with internal improvements from the likes of Martinelli, Saka, Saliba, Tierney etc, you could have the making of a top 4 side again. Without our only goalscorer in the squad however, I don't see it happening.
Leicester gave Vardy a big deal in 2018 that's taking him through to the age of 35, and it's going to get them a CL place.
