The whole Ozil debate reminds me of when we would discuss Walcott and some would point at his stats as proof that he was still a good player when it was clear as day he was often poor and inconsistent in his play. Same with the Ramsey v Cazorla in the middle discussions. It’s always nice to point to statistics, and in a team that’s clearly struggling for cohesiveness and creativity, bringing Ozil back is the obvious “fix”. It is also, in my opinion, the laziest, and with a view on the long(er) term the least beneficial for the progress of the team. The coach has decided to move on from Ozil as the heart of our attack and he has the backing of club management. Emery has made his bed when it comes to this so let him lie on it.
The truth is that over time we had become poor even with him as a regular and we are also poor without him. So it essentially comes down to personal preference.
The bigger issue, which I would personally rather spend time discussing is how we transition the team into an effective unit without him.
