Laca starting to boss it?

Martinelli might have higher potential than Eddie but age suggests his body has a couple of years to develop further which could affect his immediate progress. Don't want to over burden him in one of the most demanding roles so prefer Eddie to start ahead of him.

I don't think we need to consider being 3rd choice and overburden. He's played against big clubs and been fine. A lot better that nketiah.

Lacazette wants to stay, but not even a whisper of a new contract from the club. After all that "two years left, you sign or you get sold" talk...this must mean we want to get rid of him.

Same. I think a Lacazette, Auba and Pepe front three has plenty of potential to be successful in this league. If we can get 45 goals from that trio in the league we will be very much in the reckoning for top 4. With Auba good for half of those, the other two need to step up and justify the circa £125m we spent on the two of them.

Arteta seemed pretty happy with Laca in his presser yesterday.

Maybe we over think things? 2 years is still a long time and by the sounds of this forum Ppl make Laca appear as if he a 34 year old on his last legs.

A hungry and motivated Laca could surprise people this season.

I think he may have been referring to the fact that club has said they don't want to continue allowing players to run down their contracts and Laca would be on his last year next summer which puts us in a poor financial position unless we extend which would arguably also put us in a poor position on and off the pitch. Hence if the club mean what they say, selling this summer is the only viable option available.

Maybe but football is very fickle. If Laca gets off to a good start then the above may be forgotten about quickly.

I would pick Laca in your fantasy teams for next few games. Just a tip :-)

Got Auba in there and given him the armband for GW1. Really looking forward to the new season now. Nice that all the games this weekend are spread out as well. Will try and catch all of them.

I think keep him and focus on strengthening the midfield options. Spend the next 12 months finding and sweet talking out next long term striker

Need to cut our losses with him and move on if possible. He has two years to run on his contract and he isn't going to get better.

What worries me most about him is his physical presence. He isn't quick enough or strong enough either.

He really need to go. Imagine if we have someone more mobile and pacier up front.

He's always been like this. I feel most performances are a mixed bag, with some good touches and terrific hustle coupled with some serious shortcomings, but I think he'll have to stay this year while we keep working on bringing through some young players. He can leave next summer.

I think he was good today by the way. Not quite quick enough to latch onto a couple of balls played in-behind, but he was present in and around the box and the goal was good. The sub should have happened sooner so he didn't have to drag himself around the pitch when he's not fully match fit, but that's on Arteta.

He does a lot for us we should be thankful for. Puts his body in the way of two centre backs, takes tonnes of fouls, never ever shirks a challenge, and he's honestly quite good at dropping and holding onto the ball.

No one else offers that at present in the squad.

However, the execution of his passes (and not just first time ones, passes after he's controlled the ball as well) to feed our other forwards, is lacking.

Need a top technician there and we'd be purring.
