Probably because Monaco have had a rubbish season. Football fans and pundits can be a bit simple like that. Constantly ignoring mitigating circumstances. I like to think Gazidis and co will be more thorough in their analysis when selecting a new manager.

He has been mentioned as being on the shortlist on a few occasions. Of course most of these shortlists seem to include pretty much every conceivable possibility so it doesn't mean much.

Probably because no one in the press know what they're talking about. I'm sure we have a short list of 5-10 names, and I'm dead certain Jardim is on it alongside Pellegrini, Tuchel and a few others. Captain's favourite Lucien Favre is probably on there too.

Favre would have been an outstanding choice, if he were 10 years younger. I am under no illusion, this appointment may prove to be volatile, and short term, but if the new manager proves to be a success, then I would like him to have the capability to continue on for years to come.

My picks would be Tuchel or Jardim. I think they are different in approach, but both would be outstanding choices in this climate.

We messed up years ago when Klopp then Guardiola, both became available and we decided to maintain the status quo. At that time we had a choice to make and we didn’t.

So out of what is available, I think those are the best possible choices. Allegri is in 3rd place, and to be honest would show intent, but I don’t believe he is suitable for our current situation.

Arteta and Buvac, is an interesting idea, and could possibly be incredible, but for me far too much of a gamble.

Sure, age is a slight concern. I think Favre and Pellegrini (who'd be my choices if we're looking for experienced, stable managers who are good at developing players and play beautiful football) are both 59-60 though, so we could be looking at 5-7 years of service if either of them work out. That's still an ocean of time in terms of management, and we'd have plenty of time to scout others meanwhile, or just wait for Arteta to level up. I don't think anyone in Europe has held a job for that long currently.

You make an interesting point regarding the length of time managers currently last in posts, maybe I’m ageist, but I feel like the current squad needs to be whipped into shape, and Farve has never struck me as that type. Great at attacking, but suspect elsewhere, although he seems great at improving players.

Quite the opposite, Favre is primarily renowned for drilling tactical discipline into his teams. He's apparently close to signing for Dortmund though and even if we got him - he has a Mourinho like tendency to switch clubs after a while, not by losing the dressing room but for some reason his teams stop working at some point.

Favre doesn't have what it takes to run a big club. He ran away from little ones. Word is, he's going to Dortmund.

Not that impressed by Tuchel, either. Dortmund supporters don't really miss him (if they do, only because the replacements have been dire). He wouldn't fix our defence, anyway. PSG can have him.

Jardim lost all his good players, but got a shit ton of cash to play with, and Ligue 1 is easy. I think it's right to reconsider his reputation.

It's a difficult decision, glad I don't have to make it!
