And not just Maitland-Niles. If we have high hopes for Nelson he needs to get some game time now. Its annoying to watch us bringing on Welbeck and Theo last night. Welbeck was especially terrible in his cameo, 1 successful pass in his entire time on the pitch (according to whoscored), no shots, no headers won, no successful dribbles, etc

After that, we will see. We saw again Maitland-Niles had an outstanding performance tonight. He’s a defensive midfielder basically, so at some stage I play him in there.

We have Kolasinac injured, Monreal injured - but they will come back so that is an opening for him.

Gotta love the bloke. He's got a lot of breadth in his game.

Yeah, I feel that way too.

However, he seems to have that confidence and composure about him - real self belief. So even if (when) he does have a few dodgy moments/matches, he'll get over it quickly.

Hope he's not a new Iwobi. He too seemed flawless technically when he first broke through, but I don't know what’s happened to him since then.

He’s been Wengered. Same thing that’s happened to Bellerin, Chambers, Holding and others. The team is not a healthy place for a young player to keep pushing himself, improving technically, learning tactics and maturing as a young man with the arm a learned winner around his shoulder. He’s surrounded by losers, invalids, no-talent-ass-clowns, and rats looking to bail out. It’s not an ideal environment to build young stars.

Contrast with Cesc. He walked into a team with Vieira and Gilberto to teach him to man a midfield, Bergamp to teach him how to pick a pass, and Pires to teach how to be wily. It is no coincidence he accelerated into one of England’s best midfielders as a teenager

Iwobi has plenty of quality attacking players to learn from and one of the best attacking coaches in the world to work with daily.

Although, to be perfectly honest, I don't even know why he gets the pelters he does anyway. He's a good player who could become a class player.

I don't think Iwobi's been that bad either. Knives seem to be out for him in every game. Every developing player have spells where they're going through the motions until they're 23 or so. He's class in congested spaces, and that's a quality you either have or you don't.

He is with his first touch, but he rarely passes accurately in tight areas.

Yep. I feel passing and decision-making can be improved though, but it's much harder to teach people to be calm on the ball when the pressure is on. You look at Xhaka by contrast and think that he'd be a Championship level footballer if it wasn't for his left foot. He's an absolute chambles whenever someone gets close to him.

I think we've done some good ground work at the academy in this respect. All of the players coming through right now have that same composure and basic confidence in their ability. Maitland-Niles, Nelson and Iwobi are great on the ball. Even Willock, who looks like a dime a dozen player, can step in when needed without looking lost.

Iwobi is slowly but surely becoming the new Diaby. Beats four players with ease then panics and does something incredibly stupid. But I guess if he beat four players with ease and did something incredibly brilliant he would be Messi and there is only one of those around.
