Maybe, but this is Coquelin's 140-ish game for us, and the majority of those have been starts. If he can't step up and lead the inexperienced youngsters in a game like this then what does it say about him? Is that the sort of character we want in central midfield? It's okay as long as he comes in and starts running at everyone like an idiot? That's an endearing quality in an 18-year-old, not someone who's 26.
I see it primarily as an issue that he thinks he's "leading" by trying to do everything, instead of doing a few things well (what helped him break into the team) to help others do their job well. In no way am I supportive of him running around like an idiot....which is why I said it was pointless to press there.Â
