The closer the player is to goal, the more he/she will be blamed if their error leads to a goal.
Xhaka blaming missed chances at the other end of the pitch doesn't get this.
It also depends on the chance missed as if it is a penalty, the striker is getting it in the neck even more!
Of course, the stick would have been much less if he had a better record.

That's certainly giving him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think so though, I think the point he's making is the same one keepers often make. Everyone talks about a goalkeeping error but no one talks much about missed chances or persistent misplaced passes etc. It's a fair point to make if you're a captain or manager defending another player, if you're doing it to defend yourself, it's dodgy ground.

Not that I particularly want to defend Xhaka, nobody can control what a statement will look like except the media. Even "no comment" can be made to look bad.

I doubt he can even read and write properly, so you mght be asking for a tad too much there. Plus nothing valuable has ever been said in the mixed zone throughout the history of the sport. He conceded a penalty and when asked about it threw out a completely normal platitude about how journalists would rather put the team down for its mistakes than credit it for how much it created, and people insist on reading too much into it.

It's the single most pointless routine of all time, invented by some fuckboi in a suit who decided that they needed to pad their shallow post-match coverage with more cutaways to the players' faces to get people to stay tuned. It should be illegal to even approach a player with a microphone after a game.

Even worse is when they approach a player or a coach who has just lost. None of this stuff makes sense. Pay a back office to do some fucking analysis and stop hiring guys like Michael Owen who sound like their brains are running on fumes

Yeah, lacks any sort of context. I’m no fan of Xhaka but he’s a good player with glaring weaknesses. With Mustafi out of the picture though he seems to be the main target now.
