I wouldn't give Sokratis much benefit of the doubt here, considering it was only last week he encroached Guendouzi's space and fouled van Dijk leading up to Matip's opener.

The guy is a joke. A 50+ goals conceded joke.

I did go on to say Sokratis let Eriksen go and that was his fault and his fault only. Leno obviously takes a share of the blame too. I do think Xhaka was responsible for the initial chaos by not really challengjng Kane. I don't really know what he's thinking is there.

Regardless, I spend too much time watching Xhaka play football, I'm not going to punish myself further by spending time talking about him. You know he's terrible, as you have said, and so do I, even if we disagree about specifics.

I've said it before but I really hope they've all been usurped by younger players by the end of the season.

Sokratis and Luiz feel like stop gaps but I can't help but shake the feeling that Xhaka may be around for a while. The fact that he's got the arm band doesn't help!

The thing about Xhaka is I think we could sell him for a decent amount, hopefully that'd be enough for Raul and Edu to say "hey we can do better here".

i used to believe this, but now im not sue.

we're just people posting on a forum and we can see he is really below standard for a top club because of his clear deficiencies (lack of mobility, decision making, etc)

i have to wonder what high level club is going to come in for him at this point. because as we've seen with some of our other deadwood, the player has to be willing to leave too, it cant just be that the club wants him out.

his contract runs until 2023. ive already been mentally preparing myself for him to be here at least 2 more years, even though that thought is really troubling to me

Merson and Wrighty have been vicious in the media. Made it clear Xhaka is a waste of flesh and bone. I wonder how he reacts to their criticism, particularly as Wrighty is supportive of other players and has even taken Nketiah under his wing.

When it comes to tackling his mind seems to work quicker than his feet, a lot of the time he should be making the tackle but he is often out of position and far too slow so gets done.

Don't think Xhaka has a future here, we do need a player like him to dictate and control player but obviously someone on a much higher level. When Arteta started to fade I had hoped we could sign someone who played like him but a bit better in dictating the game. We ended up going backwards, Xhaka's passing ain't that bad but in crucial stages of the game you need someone there to take control and very often he goes missing. Arteta was a much better player for us, he wasn't particularly quick but won most tackles he made.

You can't tell me there aren't good players like that around, last season Rodri joined Atletico for like £20m so there are players around. The summer we signed Xhaka was the one which was the beginning of the end for Wenger imo. Don't know what the club saw in the players we signed that summer, all of them have been complete and utter disaster.

Is it though? I very much doubt Emery (or any self respecting manager) will respond to what the pundits say, all it really does is create a toxic environment around a player who will most likely start most games. I think it's a bit shit.

I suspect that this may be Xhaka's last season, and the reason he's been retained is simply that there is no established starting replacement for him in our current midfield options.

He'll likely be sold as soon as we can answer 3 questions:
1 - has Guendouzi shown he can replace him in the starting XI and perform to the required standards consistently?
2 - will Ceballos want to join us after his loan finishes?
3 - is there someone more suited available in the market (subject to where we finish)?
