As disgraceful as the officials were tonight, and they really were, Roma have to look at themselves. Beating this Liverpool side was well within their capabilities and they fluffed it in the first 75 minutes of the first leg and in giving away 2 disgustingly poor goals tonight.

I fancy Real Madrid by 2 goals or more in the final though. I think this Liverpool side is monstrously overrated.

Believe it or not they hadn't conceded a single goal at home in the CL before today. Not bad given they've hosted Barcelona Atletico and Chelsea pre-mutiny form.

I think they deserve credit, it's difficult to remain switched on defensively when the whole team has been asked to attack since the first minute, plus they were missing some key players especially Strootman, forcing Nainggolan to play a lot deeper than he usually would've. Despite all of this they would have gone through if the refs did their jobs, absolutely disgraceful from the lot of them.

If it's any consolation neither team today stands a chance vs Madrid in the final

If it's 1-0 liverpool in the first half, they'll still play positive for the second goal and that'd be a good thing for them. If they get 2-0 , they might look to protect it the whole 45 minutes and ramos will begin and ronaldo will finish them off.

Guys, this isn’t last year’s Madrid team. I can barely recall a period of sustained good team performance from them. They were given a boost this season by Ronaldo going into god mode in mid season and scoring basically 1.7 goals a game for a sustained period (about three months). Other than that, from game to game, uneven been bailed out by the brilliance of Isco, Marcelo, Asensio or others.

Against pool, it will be key to bring back Casemiro and have solid midfield, with the likes of Modric and Kroos. In his absence, Bayern ran amok. Amidst this, they need to figure out how best to deploy Isco: he has been their most dangerous player this year, but those three are their best midfield in recent seasons.
They will also need to give Marcelo support versus the Egyptian else he will be beaten often. Plus his offensive contributions will be blunted. Hopefully, Carvajal is back to balance things out on the right.

we'll have to see how pool turn up on a neutral ground, against a vastly more experienced team at the top level. form and momentum are with liverpool, but that doesn't count for everything in a one-off cup final. imo they're as likely to collapse and get embarrassed by real as they are to just blow them off the pitch

Sane had a fair shout for a penalty early on too

Anyways, no one to blame but yourself if you can't beat a midfield of Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum.

i look at how teams play in the champions league now, and i'm convinced our 2002-2004 team would be a strong contender to win it all. european competition was much slower paced and defensive back then, and there were some quality teams that were capable of dominating at a slower pace and neutralising teams that relied on pace and power e.g. the valencia, deportivo, and ac milan teams of that time. we got mugged by valencia a few times, and i remember valeron's deportivo making a peak vieira chase shadows as well

Definitely Gaz. From the double onward we struggled to cope with the relative patience and technical ability of our opposition in Europe for quite a while and had to adapt our league style considerably to start to get past them.

Those kinds of clubs don't seem to exist at the same level now, it's been more juggernauts duking it out this season—and there were few more potent than the Invincibles toe to toe.

It was a bad tackle but if that's a red worthy tackle few games finish 11v11. There's a difference in debatable tackles and literally goalsaving handballs imo

No, it is news. Last year the allocation was 41,000 seats to the fans in a 66,000 seat stadium in Cardiff

It's clearly getting worse to the point where fans are not even a majority.

All logic tells me Madrid, despite clearly not being the side they were, should have too much for this Liverpool team.

Can't see how Ronaldo doesn't get at least one goal against that defence. And I feel Liverpool have had a very lucky draw to be here.

There's a chance that Liverpool produce an Anfield type performance and Madrid's older legs cant handle the pace and intensity. But surely Modric and Kroos are going to make mincemeat of this lot?
