It's not even comparing like for like anyway, Mourinho's had tonnes of resources/support from the club and only incrementally improved them.

Van Gaal did a number on United. That's why despite the FA Cup he was sacked.

Mourinho won Uefa and Carling in first season. He's now gonna take them 2nd or 3rd most likely which is better than LVG ever did.

Honestly Van Gaal was shocking. It doesn't mean Mourinho is not found wanting but let's be real.

Since when does the league cup count for anything? It's literally padding. And sure, they won the Europa cup - once they realised that they'd finish lower in the league than van Gaal in the previous season.

Mourinho's done better this season but most of the attackers that he relies on right now i.e. Rashford and Martial are the ones van Gaal got through.

Mourinho is probably a safer pair of hands since van Gaal was a nutjob but there's really no massive gap in class since Mourinho's just spent another 500m on the team van Gaal had. Finishing 2nd/3rd doesn't sound that impressive - particularly since he's still absolutely miles behind City.

What's worse is that this Sevilla side is vulnerable defensively under Montella. They have just been thrashed by Atletico and Valencia at home recently.

Honestly can't believe Mourinho parked the bus for 2 legs.

I don't think they parked the bus. They just weren't great.

They don't park the bus every time they lose. That's just a stereotype of Mourinho.

They absolutely did, especially in the first leg where they played for a draw. Today they set up on the counter for long balls and gave Sevilla possession. It was only until they went behind they came out to play. The team lineup says it all.

Aw I thought that was Tony Adams for a second.

LVG spent his millions on the wrong players. Mourinho did what he had to do. He's failed overall but by pure output he's done better. It's not like he's not gonna use Rashford and Martial to prove he can do it without them.

I think people use exaggerated arguments when they don't need to.

Mourinho has been underwhelming given United's ambitions and size and his team played poorly in the Sevilla tie. They weren't defensive necessarily. They were just poor. He's not always defensive when he loses.

When Arsenal lose its not just because Wenger only focuses on attack. Our attack and defence are poor.

Atleast Alexis will improve with age

Oh wait...

Heard he hates life in Manchester too.

Van Gaal never finished below 5th in the league whilst Mourinho finished 6th last season despite having a better squad at his disposal. The squad Van Gaal inherited was a total mess - very shite IMO.

Van Gaal could have easily won the Europa with them last season IMO considering how much better the United squad was than their opponents.

If we're being honest, United's transfer policy has been shocking regardless of manager for most of this decade. They've wasted so much money it's untrue.

But yeah, if you're going to go for pure 'output' without any sort of context then there's little point discussing the circumstances behind both managers so this is where I'll leave it.

Edit: also - United aren't only defensive when they lose, they've been overly cautious right through the season and over both legs of this CL tie. Even their fans acknowledge that.

I'm desperate for someone to knockout the Scousers. Unfortunately I can see them turning over some of those teams left in the competition and going all the way.

Apparently they only had 4 shots on target over 2 legs against Sevilla. I had to giggle when I saw him park the bus against a side that's nowhere as talented as the one at his disposal. AT HOME. The cunt is one of the most cowardly managers in the history of the game IMO.

I think Liverpool are too gung-ho. A savvy side will do them. Juve, Barca, or Madrid.

What makes it even better is this is the worst Sevilla team in ages, they're ridiculously inconsistent and their defence has been pathetic this season

Well they're sure as shit not going past Sevilla if they're drawing them

We're lucky United have been so horribly mismanaged these past few years. With the money they've spent they should be rolling out with a top tier XI. Good for us and I hope they keep Mourinho around for a little longer. We need to nab the next big thing in management whilst they stall under their scumbag cowardly manager.

The whole thing literally reads like he's complimenting himself for knocking United out of Champions League a third time. 😆

Sanchez has lost something without a doubt. A yard of pace perhaps? He used to be far more electric and pacey.

Suddenly the FA `Cup has got a lot bigger for Utd and Spurs

Proper meltdown!

Think his point is that United getting knocked out shouldn't be seen as some sort of rare occurrence, that they have been knocked out at this stage plenty of times in the past.

Of course being the arrogant, self-serving, petty little cunt that he is, he had to mention the fact that he himself had been responsible for knocking them out in the past with his previous teams, as if that had absolutely any relevance to anything.

Alexis broke the record for losing the ball in the Champions League - 42

Matic:

We know the supporters are sad because of the result, we are sad too and we have to go back to winning ways and I hope the team reaction will be good.

"We are not happy because we are out of the Champions League but this is football

United. We sad.

That was definitely the point he was trying to make, but it didn't read like that due to him being a massive, smug prat.

This season is not going well for Mourinho, is it. De Bruyne and Salah - players he wrecked and then sold off for scraps at Chelsea - are bossing the league while he has managed to ruin a potential once in a generation player in Pogba. And now he's got a failing Alexis Sanchez on his hands too which has made Anthony Martial, United's other rising star, mutinous.

This is exactly what happened at Chelsea. Give it another five months and he'll be on course to relegate Manchester United too.

I just hope they stick wit him. If we swapped keepers for the season I'm pretty sure we'd be ahead of them right now. That's how turgid their football has been.

I love Mourinho for United. He’s absolutely the wrong manager. He knows that he rubs people the wrong way and never lasts, so he’s scrambling and making a lot of short-term, opportunistic purchases. He’s not building a team strategically for the long term, which is what you should be doing giving all he money he has. He should be slowly tearing apart the team he has, disposing of players like Fellaini and other shocking chancers. Instead, he just keeps tossing various superstars into his stew, stirring and tasting. And right now what he’s serving neither delights delights the fans nor positions the club to win anytime soon.

😆 De Boer got a great return shot in at Mourinho on the TV commentary.

Mourinho is a dinosaur.

They had little intent and their approach to the game wasn't of a home team taking the game to the opposition. Defensive doesn't always have to mean 10 men behind the ball.

He has had success with it in the past with top two way/ defensive midfielders and defenders but the game has moved on and like Wenger he hasn't either.

What did De Boer say?

I'm struggling to find the tweet where I saw it, but basically he said "I might be the worst manager in the world," but then dragged Mourinho for having spent over £1bn in his career and still losing matches like this!
