Legendary Rosenborg coach Nils Arne Eggen passed away this morning at the age of 80. Heavily inspired by Rinus Michels, Eggen's Rosenborg was the antithesis to the Norwegian national team who made some waves of their own in the 90's. Positive and attacking to a fault. That made our Champions League games must see TV, we took some hammerings but we also gave a few out ourselves. 3-0 at Dortmund, 2-0 vs Real Madrid at home and 2-1 at San Siro in a must win game for Milan all come to mind. 13 league titles in a row, 8 Champions League group stage appearances in a row (as the only team in Europe during that timespan). The gap between his and everyone elses accomplishments in Norwegian football could not be any wider.
For those of you who understand Swedish this might be a good opportunity to check out the When We Were Kings episode they made on Rosenborg in the 90's not too long ago.
