I really don't like this kind of use of statistics. Conveniently leaving out that two of those three losses actually were their two most recent home games, and that all three of those losses came in this qualifier.

Completely lost interest in the England national team. Last time I really supported them properly was probably 2004 when Rooney was breaking through. Since then it’s been forced and now it’s just complete apathy. It’s hard to support a collection of all the players you dislike, moreso when they are a complete bore to watch.

My dad is delighted. Apparently Holland has to beat both Belarus and Sweden by 5 goals in their final two games now if they want to finish 2nd. I haven't seen much of the group but that seems like a tall ask.

Roy Hodgson always got my name wrong

I played a lot in my first season at Inter. Pre-season went really well, and Gigi Simoni gave me plenty of game time — a starter and from the bench. Then, it was Mircea Lucescu, who tended to favour the older guys, Luciano Castellini thought I was OK, while Roy Hodgson mispronounced my name. He called me Pirla (a term used in Milan dialect roughly translated as ****head), perhaps understanding my true nature more than the other managers. We went through four coaches that year (1999). I'd wake up in the morning and not remember who my coach was.
