He's not just a good finish, he's an outstanding finisher.
Alexandre Lacazette
Yet he can't get into the French national team ahead of Giroud "the donkey"
Qwiss! wrote:He's not just a good finish, he's an outstanding finisher.
Yep, he's gonna be outstanding at finishing us as a big club.
flobaba wrote:Coombs, how do you know so much about him from highlights? Or do you actively follow the French league?
Summer break, started downloading Lyon games when it became apparent he was our likely striker signing. Honestly, mostly because I hadn't really seen him play and I was amazed at how much people hate the idea of him. I try to keep tabs on Marseille in L1, but I don't watch Lyon regularly, no.
Honestly, Lyon is pretty shit, but players like Fekir and Valbuena really benefit from the way Lacazette plays. He makes space. He also drifts across the front line a lot, but seems to always pop up in the box even if he starts the move out wide.
He's a good striker. I think he's more likely to score a bunch of goals for us than end up a flop, and he might even explode, although I don't think he's got that high of a ceiling. Knowing us, though, he'll probably fail to score in his first 10 games, finally start to look like a decent player after getting his feet, then get injured for a few months. Then Wenger will play him out of position when he comes back because he'll lack sharpness.
He's not anyone's first choice. That includes Wenger. But he's not garbage like people are saying, at least, I haven't seen the games they base such a claim on.

Oh well, might as well get behind this I guess, if he scores goals we're golden. I wonder what else we have up our sleeves, just Lemar? Mbappe must be dead.
Don't think he's garbage, but I feel this is an underwhelming signing. We need quality. Someone who can make their own goals, not rely on supply (regardless of how good that supply may be). We need that extra bit of magic. Someone who will win us games by themselves like Sanchez did many times last season. Like van Persie used to do. Like Henry used to do.
I'm looking at what we need to make us truly competitive. Players that would not just get us back into the top 4, but actually give us a decent shot at winning.
Lacazette ain't it

Thought we were already finished
Coombs wrote:Why does everyone hate this guy so much? I don't get it.
He's an exotic Darren Bent
So how do we plan to pronounce his name?

He definitely isn't, but neither are any of the other strikers we're being linked with.
Just watched another comp to try and psych myself up for this but it's so unimpressive, except for in front of goal where he looks very good. Basically the only way this is a success is if he can maintain the scoring rate.
He'll be more productive than Alexis.
Bold, Tony...
Tony Montana wrote:He'll be more productive than Alexis.
He would only have to score more than 30 goals and provide more than 15 assists then...
I think Tony means if they play together next season.
Lacazette is no fool, he's just not that special. I can't really bring myself to be enthusiastic about signing him, even though he's a definite improvement on what we have.
I'm just bummed about Mbappé. I should have known better than to think we had it in us to sell the club to a kid like him. Realistically, Lacazette is as good as we could attract currently, in my opinion.
we'll be great on fifa this year, so theres that
Interested to see how he does, if he does score similar to what he has for the past three seasons, he would be a bargain.

You get taken in easily in general.

Agreed. An upgraded Walcott, if you will.
The comps don't show it but there must be more to him than penalties and loose balls deflecting into his path as, unless your name is Rossi or Linekar, you cannot keep getting that amount of luck.
You've reAlly got it in for Ricky

Just watched a comp showing all of his goals from 16/17, he doesn't display anything that is magical or spectacular, what he does I think the likes of Walcott or Giroud can do - not on the wind up or anything, If the fee is really 50m+ then would it not be wiser to just go the whole shabang and get somebody like Mbappe or even a little more and sign Morata/Icardi??

Tbf a comp of kane or lukaku would be similarly bland. These guys are all about the finish rather than general play. Wenger appears to have given up on developing complete strikers. It's either target men or poachers now
A pacy threat through the middle has been lacking for ages. The team played it's best stuff with theo or Alexis in the middle, but in reality they were always just half measures there

Liverpool would be delighted with Lacazette upfront.
The Shkodran Mustafi of forwards.
Thing is you know we won't offer as much as this for Lemar even.
Should pay 50 for lemar, easy.
We should because frankly I don't see where else where going to spend any money.

We'd be happy, not delighted. We're pretty much in the same boat nowadays.
go away
alexis, ozil and lacazette is a good front 3. mbappe was always just a dream
now, sign a GK and CM
Underwhelming, but I guess this is our level for now. If we had to settle for him, should have probably signed him in previous windows then.

Yeah, if you go into next season and you have those as your front three... pure class.

I'd rather a CM and another attacker, tbh. Sounds like its gonna be Petr/Emi next season in goal anyway.

Liverpool lack a genuine goal scorer.
I think Liverpool will struggle this coming season. Their form wasn't good in the closing stages of the season and they've reached their ceiling with their current set of players. Maybe they'll surprise us but they will find it difficult to play with the intensity klopp likes

i see GK as a pretty huge need right now, tbh. cech hasnt looked world class since he arrived at arsenal and i have major question marks about him going forward. martinez is nothing more than 3rd choice.
i think we'd be crazy to not be at the front of the line for donnarumma. could have the position sorted for the next 10+ years.
at CM, if we play 2 CMs this coming season, we have xhaka-ramsey and then elneny + ??....we definitely need a CM, but i would love to see us stump up for a world class keeper.

Yup but they would be a few goals created by mouth agape and physicality respectively.
The main positive i see from Laca is finally having no more use for Theo as no way can we afford 2 passengers out of 3 in the front line.
Joe Hart incoming

Agreed on theo. I've had enough of him and his flighty fairweather shenanigans
Rohit wrote:Underwhelming, but I guess this is our level for now. If we had to settle for him, should have probably signed him in previous windows then.
Yeah, that's the thing I don't get. He was cheaper previous 3 windows and we thought he was too expensive. Even last summer Aulas wanted 40m and we couldn't pay it. He could have fired us to the title in the year Leicester won the title and certainly got us top 4 easily last season.
Wenger is really desperate nowadays.
