I agree that all the Foo Fighters stuff is the same. And its all bland post-grunge shite too.
Foo Fighters' songs sound all the same, do they? To each their own I guess, but I like them a lot.
Yep, they do. Shame, cos Dave Grohl seems like a top guy.
The Foo Fighters are one of the worst bands in the last couple of decades. Every bit as bland as Coldplay and saved only by Grohl's association with better acts Nirvana and QOTSA.
Foo Fighters are bad enough on their own, but they also seem to be the go-to band for the douchebags at afterparties who finds a guitar and turns down the music so everyone can listen to them. No, I will not sing Everlong with you, leave me alone.
Everlong is brilliant. 🙂
How times have changed, when I was at uni and the guitars came out, it was always Crowded House...
Foo Fighters is ok. Best album is "Echoes, Silence...".
Quite fond of Wasting Light myself. Very much look forward to their next album too this November. 🙂
Everyone's got a shitty bland rock band skeleton in his closet somewhere. I used to love Coldplay's first album … always disliked the Foo Fighters though from "Monkey Wrench" on.
Yeah I could never really get into Foo Fighters and only ever bought their first album. Burnsy, Parachutes is a good album so no need for embarassment...they just got shitter with each release from there. I'm quite liking what I've heard of Royal Blood...might have to buy their album. I don't buy much new music cos I'm an old geezer who prefers the older stuff.
Parachutes is ok but it certainly has all the signposts of the unbelievably spammy band they'd become. Alan McGee described it as "bed-wetters' music", I thought that was outrageous at the time but now I see where he was coming from.
Rush of Blood was better than Parachutes. Since then its been a very steep downward trajectory for them though. I blame Paltrow.
Paltrow was just the symptom, the problem's the band and in particular Chris Martin.
I don't agree A Rush of Blood was better than Parachutes either. That's like saying Morning Glory's better than Definitely Maybe. It's a typical second album.
I'm firmly of the opinion that the best music is written on the basis of angst and introspection. Once bands 'make it' and start raking in the cash, there's just not as much to be genuinely angsty about, and the introspection tends to turn into clichéd love songs or overly self indulgent swill. Very few bands are as good or better by their 3rd album and usually the longer they go on the worse they get.
Yeah, I'm a first album kinda guy, that said there are bands who do get better with age—but they're generally the ones who are about the musicianship and composition rather than the emotional impact.
There are bands that get better (or stay at a relatively high level) but they tend not to be the ones who get massive with their first album.
I like There's Nothing Left to Lose. Generator and Aurora are my favourite songs.
I hate hate hate Yellow. I have never bought a Coldplay album though. I like Coldplay's song Magic.
A torrent for ten hours' worth of Zimmer's Inception music. 😃
