Well, it was a good show, but a little pedestrian and I mostly enjoyed the cuts from Boxer. They're just a pretty straight act.
I was all ready to announce The National as the "Brooklyn Coldplay" but then Matt Berninger jumped into the crowd with a 100m microphone cable and did some of the best frontmanning I've seen since Grinderman.
So the show had an epic, old school rock and roll chaotic finale that sort of elevated the rest of the night. I'm sure the schtick's been done before but it was engrossing—I was a fair way from stage in a grassy amphitheatre and Berninger actually jogged straight past me with his mike, and gave me a high five en route (as well as everyone else nearby).
PS I feel your pain re turntables James, have broken two cartridges recently and it's a pain in the neck.
